Microsoft has confirmed it will begin selling Xbox One without a Kinect sensor in the box. A standalone Kinect sensor for Xbox One will go on sale this autumn.

The removal of Kinect from the basic Xbox One package means that the console will now be sold in the UK at ?349 and in the US at $399, rather than the original $499.

Microsoft has in the past refused to offer Xbox One without Kinect included, although previously U-turned on the fact that the device needed to be plugged in at all times.

The company has detailed changes to the Xbox Live Games with Gold programme, which will begin for Xbox One in June with two titles - Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault. The two Xbox 360 titles will be Dark Souls and Charlie Murder, and as a one-off bonus, a third title - Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition.

It means that with a Gold subscription you will now presumably get four games free per month - two for Xbox 360 and two for Xbox One.

If true, that will be an epic fail of epic proportions.

It is.

OK...The price better be way below that of the PS4 to make it worth it.

It's exactly the same price as the PS4.

I agree and at the same price as the PS4...I still don't think MS completely gets it.

They should have dropped the price with it included. Now it's still a box with a bit less performance for the exact same price.

Good move, but IMO, the biggest issue is software. What's the compelling reason (game) to upgrade from a 360 or even PS3 to an XB1 or PS4? It's all about the software.

Fail confirmed. There goes developer support.

Oh, the price is all good, and most gamers won't know the difference. (besides us core gamers). The fail is now a lack of Kinect support from devs.

No doubt this will sell consoles big time.

so it was false hopes to expect Microsoft releasing exciting kinect games?

Describe your idea of a AAA Kinect game ... the voice rec was good, but I think the motion was and always will be a niche. It has had it's hey day (Nintendo) IMO.

There goes Microsofts last bone in their spine, well I hope this gives them the sales they obviously expect. I was wrong about them ever removing Kinect and I'll probably be wrong again but I suspect it wont.

It better, otherwise they have sacrificed Kinect for nothing.

But I thought that Kinect was required for the full Xbone experience... now they tell us that isn't so!?

You can still use something without the "full experience"

You won't get Voice Commands & visual sign in out of the box. Obviously wanting this is a personal preference so its good to have choice I guess but as these are things the Xbox can do but won't be able to without Kinect then you aren't getting the full experience. IMO using the console without things like snap etc will just be frustrating without voice, I suspect they are going to have to make some UI changes to make this more usable for the Kinectless users.
