laptop - yellow tint and fuzzy lines

I bought two Dell Latitude E6500 from my university for $80 total.

 

One works perfectly. The other has a yellow tint and fuzzy lines on the screen.

 

Anyway, I notice that the corners have big chips which I can inferred is from a drop. The hinges are quite away from the corner though.

 

Is this fixable? I am guessing that something is wrong with the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard.

quite possibly the video card is on its way out on the yellow tint and fuzzy lines.  You can try swapping the screens between the two to see if it fixes the problem.  If it does then buy a new screen.

Well, I connect the laptop to an external monitor and everything is normal on the monitor.

Sounds like a faulty wire/connection (might just need reseating) or the inverter might be on its way out if you're start getting flickers.

It sounds like the screen, as suggested, swap it. Dell laptops are super easy to take apart.

 

Here's the service manual (Page 18-19 I believe) You shouldn't actually have to take the display assembly off, unless the bezel is tucked in between the frame and the display.

I have to be a little bit careful here.

 

Dell uses three types of screens on the Dell Latitude E6500 line:

+ Single CCFL lit LCD screen

+ Dual (2) CCFL Backlit LCD screen

+ LED lit LCD screen

 

Update:

 

The laptop to be repair uses Dell X397H which is a 1 CCFL backlit.

 

Strangely enough, the other laptop uses Dell F253H which is an LED backlit.

 

Apparently, the two systems are not identical after all.

Basically saying, an E6500 LED has the same connector as a E6500 CCFL and would work just fine with either or.

 

IMO, buy a screen and call it a day, it doesn't matter which you buy as long as it fits your particular model/series.  I have not had an issue with dell screens interchanging LED with CCFL and vice versa.  Again you have two of the same that you can experiment on if you so choose.

There are a few dell's at the time they used both CCFL and LED that had different cables and even different bezels.

Very true, but cable-wise that's more to do with the 60Hz LED or the 120Hz 3D panel (I have the same model laptop). The extra cable is for the integrated Nvida 3D vision sensor (for the glasses), but the mounting hinge has a different fitting.
