It looks like it's in a more usable shape than the first KDE 4 releases were. Remember those days?

KDE up until 4,2 was a mess.

Am I the only one that thinks that the K menu, task bar and other stuff looks utterly gorgeous, but the windows in the first and third screenshots, and task bar icons (fifth screenshot) look dreadful.

KDE up until 4,2 was a mess.

I was in the the "you can pry KDE 3.x out of my cold dead hands" group for a good while.  Eventually 4.x got to the point where it's very usable, now it's the only *Nix desktop I like to use.. the others just work my nerves mainly.

Yup.. incomplete work in progress maybe?  Like where it's heading though.

The default KF5 theme is likely to be like this: http://wstaw.org/m/2.../14/sample1.png :pinch:

I actually quite like that. My only issue is the placement of the close/minimize/maximize buttons. Having them in the corner without a border would look much nicer (a lá Gnome and Windows). Overall though, it looks quite usable.

It still looks like an armature attempt to me.  IMO the desktop wallpaper is the only thing that makes it look good.  Look at them by themselves and to be they look bland, and old.

I actually rather like that.. kinda sorta reminds me of the Modern desktop theme, but more refined.  But meh, it's not like there's a lack of ways you can change it up either, I've yet to find an OS or distro that I've kept the out-of-the-box visuals, changed it on every single one to something that matches what I personally like.

KDE needs a new designers, pronto! Looks just awful as all previous KDE releases, both icons and shell.

if anyone fancies the wallpaper:

rect5399.png

what i think will happen:

- new iconset. the one used so far is the same as i have on my kubuntu 14.04. knowing that there are many icons, the community is probably already working on but it will still take some time to be implemented.

- the breeze theme. i dont think they have chosen a final version yet. i prefer the one with the round black buttons over the flat windows 8 like one, but we will see.

- the new plasma next is amazing. the calendar and startmenu designs look easily better than anything windows or macos has to offer.

- the rest might not suit everyones taste, but others dont like unity, others dont like gnome, i hear lots of people complaining over windows 8 where the iconset is basically still the one used in win 9x, same with macos. at the end, everyone can customize it the way he wants, linux got how many docks to chose from? 10 or more? same with themes and iconsets.

i never used the original kde 4, but googleing screenshots of it, i can easily see why it was a mess, some calling it fisherprice style

i only recently discovered kde, but where it is now i can only say thats an impressive desktop, especially considering its free. i am still discovering its possibilities.

the supposed mouse cursor theme for kde plasma next is called bridge, you can download it here:

http://kde-look.org/...?content=164587

i am unsure about that one. i gave it a try, but generally prefer the white mouse cursor color.
