Skype not responding on startup

Yesterday, just as I was shutting down my PC, I saw there were some updates available, so I updated / restarted and then shut down the PC.

This morning, when I tried to start Skype, it gave me a 'not responding' prompt. 

I tried uninstalling version 6.14 that I was on and installing 6.16 or whichever the newer one is. Didn't work. I then googled it, and found that a possible fix would be uninstalling / reinstalling IE. Did it, still didn't work.

What am I missing?
