Removing rivets to allow reattaching?

Recommended Posts

My boss just gave me an old PC that I'm going to put together as a file server. I've decided I'm going to repaint it since it looks like... well... a dell... Question is does anyone have ideas on how to remove the cover on the tower so I can still reattatch it somehow? I'll be drilling out the rivets, but then I'll be left with just plain ol holes. Ideas on how to reattach it after its painted?

Hello,

If you are using machine screws for reassembly, perhaps you could attach nuts on the reverse side with with some epoxy putty (ala J?B Weld)?

You could just re-rivet it back together. That's what I do every time I disassemble a case for painting.

Plastic pop rivets if you don't have the re-rivet equipment.

I guess I overthought the process. I just bought a rivet gun and the necessary rivets for 20$. Having never used them before, I thought it was something that costs significantly more money.
