LG 34UM95-P Ultra wide monitor review

Recommended Posts

Not sure what I just read but I now need to go watch Robocop and alien for some reason :p

Monitor looks great and certainly seems to sit your usage pattern, my only constructive criticism of this review would be to put some specs up front or something, I read the review and have skimmed back through it twice and still have no idea what the native res is or basic specs like that.  Its late so perhaps I've missed them, apart from that enjoyable read, enjoy the new sway :)

Nice review and great set up.

Two questions:

1) How bearable is web browsing (reading text on websites, and site layout) on such a screen?

2) Tell us a little more about those speakers you have there :).

That screen looks sweet, but it must be a drag having to move the mouse aaaaall way to the taskbar.

On a unrelated note, can you post a shot of those framed film posters you have! :D

I looked through your review a couple of times, and I see no mention of the resolution. Am I just not seeing it?

Could swear I did put up the specs in the review somewhere! Have edited it in first now :p

To answer the questions:

1) It's no different to reading websites on a 27" 1440p monitor since the vertical resolution and pixel pitch are the same. Nobody maximises a browser window on a widecsreen monitor anyway and this kind of screen means you can have 3-4 browser windows open with different content all in one view without sacrificing content view space.

2) The speakers are Tannoy Mercury V4 and are powered by a NAD D 3020 hybrid DAC/Amp :)

If you have a really low dpi or slow responding mouse maybe, I have my mouse locked at 1250dpi with no acceleration options enabled, no problem going to the taskbar with one flick left.

The frames :D

Very nice review!  I can imagine your workflow is now a breeze!

I've dealt with leftover sticker residue with alcohol and microfibre cleaning cloths.

I've found that SimpleGreen will deal rather neatly with residue (also with microfiber cleaning cloths) on anything - even glass.  I actually use it as an alternative to ammonia-based cleaners, especially around electronics (including computers, phones, devices, etc.)  No alcohol or other harsh chemicals, as, like the name, SimpleGreen is eco-friendly (but the fact that it's electronics-friendly is why I use it).

I ordered this monitor at the beginning of June and I am still waiting on LG to ship it. I am assuming they are holding them back due to this backlight bleeding issue. Slightly frustrated none-the-less.

I just got my LG 34UM95 last weekend and I just noticed that there's light bleed on bottom corners but I kinda get used to that since most LED monitors have light bleed (my Asus PB278Q has light bleed on bottom corners too).  Do you still have pictures of the light bleed of your monitor?  I just want to compare them with mine and if it's as bad then I'll just return it and just wait for new batches of LG 34UM95s.  This monitor is awesome btw  =)

btw, this is what light bleed on my monitor looks like

I bought my LG34UM95 last weekend from a local electronic store so I can still return it if this light bleed issue is as bad as yours.

That looks like excessive IPS glow, higher than normally accepted IMO! Does it shift as you move your head up and down or go away from the screen?

Here's mine just before sending it away for RMA, notice I ended up getting increased glow and backlight bleed, it wasn't like this at first!

Mine are controlled by the LUT and LG software and even if I could they would not give you decent results as every panel is unique and requires calibration directly to get the best for it!

I calibrated my monitor this morning it's completely different now.  There's still some glow on bottom  corners but that's normal on IPS screens and I checked my Asus PB278Q and it has some glow on the corners too.

Here's what it looks like now.

Before, it was easy to see it but now, it's really hard to see the glow unless you really look for it.  So I think the IPS glow isn't as bad when I first turned on my monitor.   :)

BTW, what stand are you using?  Is that an Ergotron?  I'm planning of replacing the stand too.

Would also like to know this.

Rather than repost a wall of text here I thought you guys might like to hear about my experience with LG's warranty support regarding my 34UM95 which developed backlight bleed 2 weeks after purchase.

I've posted about it on Reddit here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/28vyaw/so_i_was_really_pleased_with_my_lg_34_ultrawide/
