?Halo 5: Guardians? is coming to Xbox One in fall 2015

Microsoft and 343 Industries are finally making Halo 5 official today. After many rumors and teasers, Halo 5: Guardians will be the next instalment of the hugely popular video game, due for release on Xbox One in the fall of 2015. "It is a massive and exciting project," says Bonnie Ross, general manager and studio head of 343 Industries, the video game development team behind the most recent Halo titles. There?s no details on weapons, characters, or even the plot, but Master Chief will obviously return to action in the highly anticipated title.

Halo fans might not have to wait too long for a taste of the new game, or even something a little familiar. Rumors have suggested that Microsoft may launch a Halo 2 Anniversary Edition later this year, and Ross fuelled that speculation at last year?s E3 by noting "in 2014, Halo combat will truly evolve and your journey with Halo on Xbox One begins." Today she provides even more hints, noting that the "journey" definitely begins in 2014, and "we?re confident that "Halo" fans will be pretty excited about the special plans we have in store." Microsoft is planning to reveal more information about its Halo plans at its Xbox E3 2014 press event on June 9th.

I?m happy to reveal that ?Halo 5: Guardians,? the next installment in the legendary saga of the Master Chief, will launch on Xbox One in fall of 2015.  In the tradition of every ?Halo? game since its debut in 2001, it is a massive and exciting project.

?Halo 5: Guardians? is a bigger effort than ?Halo 4.?  That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what?s now a brand new and more powerful engine.  Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we?ve invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One?s hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen.

Your Journey Begins in 2014

Many fans noted that I was very deliberate with my phrasing on stage at E3 last year. I spoke about a ?journey,? rather than a destination ? and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step. We?ll give you much more information about our plans for this year at the Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing on June 9, and we?re confident that ?Halo? fans will be pretty excited about the special plans we have in store.

Is Halo 2 just a HD remake? or they adding in some extra stuff?

As far as MS is concerned, Halo 2 for X1 doesn't exist. So we don't know if there are extras.

Cool, I like the teaser image they shared. Even if its just a cinematic trailer, it would be cool to see more about this at E3.

As for the Halo 2 remake, that is an easy pick up for me. I really enjoyed the original.

The background in that photo, is it the planet where

Jul M'dama escapes to (Hesduros)

or may be Sanghelios itself? I think the description fits unless I am mixing things up.

So I'm guessing, going off of the picture, we're going to have two playable characters in this one instead of just MC?

Frankie confirmed that the top character is not a female. So both Palmer and Naomi are out. I guess that leaves either Chief in new suit or Fred? But Fred is UNSC and that armor has ONI logo.

(I need to finish Kilo Five and get into Escalation :D )

I think that just means they have a good chunk of stuff to show off that they're dropping tidbits for now.  We could get another Halo 5 video at E3 at least but I figure they've got a good number of other things to show us that are new and also updates to things we only saw glimpses of last E3.

I wonder if any of those earlier rumours will pan out to be true - especially regarding the open world nature of the game. That would be cool.

I also remember that there was a multiplayer rumour that said that it would be returning to a Halo 2 style game, along with a mode that more resembled (battlefield?)

Now that H2 seems all but inevitable, I wonder if that is still happening. I personally think it seems more likely now, as I think that the updated H2 and H5 multiplayer could very well share the same codebase.

It's early to tell really, we're talking a year away and more.  If the part about listening to the fans holds true fully then MP going back to what it was in H2 is possible since I'd say that's the one all the fans like the best.  As for the open world bit, it could happen, don't see why not.

Ah, well then :P

Even though we know almost nothing,I can say I haven't been this excited for a halo game in a long time. Probably halo 3 era.

I hope the new dude doesn't steal the spotlight for Master Chief.

This is just their hype bomb, to get people interested in E3 instead of turning people off with the Xbox One reveal like last year

I think Cortana is going to return. Master Chef will also return.

And the main character will have a Windows Phone.

I hope they reveal a remastered Skyrim with Steve Ballmer shouts.

Do you think this will be the first Halo to have "aim down sights"?

Ugh it better not. People already backlashed at the amount of CoD cloning 4 did. The last thing they need is to annoy the hardcore fanbase more.

Makes me wonder if they're going for some co-op type option for the SP or if they're going to introduce a new character now in 5 that will try to take over as the main character after this?  Interesting either way, I mean on the picture he's on the top while MC is below, could have some meaning there or I could just be reading into it too much.
