Funnily enough, cheap headphones tend to last longer than the more expensive ones.

thats because that thing was more carefully planned for obsolescence.

You would think it would be the other way round. Apparently that is not the case.

Wow! :o You must really take good care of your headphones. Mines don't even last a year.

Not really, they're abused when I do use em... I cleaned them for the first time, ever just before I took that pic, as I had found a supplier on ebay for the ear cushions, they're not the ones specific for those headphones, but they fit.

Quality headsets last long and take a beating though. And while pice and quality generally go hand in hand, that's not always the case with headphones, though you usually need pricier headset for quality, but not not expensive headsets are quality...

Hmm, I see! I guess the wiring must be quite strong. :o

That's the problem! it's kinda hard to tell which ones are quality. That's why I stick to the cheapest ones that aren't designed to last for ages.

OP

That is pretty much the kind of thought process that goes through my head when I see the aforementioned brand, says me - Mr Frugal with his ?60 S`heisers.

I'll usually touch the headphones, to see if they feel cheap, and if the store wont let you, then don't buy them neither, their loss, not yours.

See how flexible the headband is, how tough the cable feels, and trust your instinct, if something tells you these'll break, then don't bother, most mid range sennheisers are better than some high end sony's, bose, or beats, and so on, my wife wanted a set of beats, but I got her a pair of chambers, purely because I trust wesc, the company that makes them, and in our local hmv store, she tried the set I bought against the more expensive set she wanted to find the chambers were better overall.

if you have money to burn, there are some really high end headphones/headsets available to you, but I've never looked at them because I cannot justify over ?1,000 for something I use when I'm not driving (which isn't often considering my line of work) (also another reason my aiwas have lasted so long, I never take them to work)

Good advice! (Y)

The only problem with testing the quality is, the headphones here are often put in really annoying to open packaging most of the time, so you don't really get to check the quality unless you buy it. :/

Most of the tunes on my PC and iPad are 128kbps so when purchasing headphones a budget of ?20 is sufficient. Comfort is key. I have a fat head so not too tight and big ear cups.

A lot if people don't like sennheiser because of the flat sound they have. But that's a taste thing.

Through a combination of Heavy Metal concerts through the '80s and constant nagging/whining from a wife and two daughters, I am a bit mutton. Therefore 320+ don't sound any different to me than 128  :woot:
