I am thinking about getting a more efficient one than the H.Wong Brands that come with Pre Built PC's 80 Plus Gold of Platinum. Or would Bronze Suffice? What are your recommendations? Alera Posted May 20, 2014 Share Posted May 20, 2014 The marketing of PSU efficiency has no real standards attached to them, a lot of PSUs when tested do not meet the "standard" and don't deserve the grade they are listed as, I wouldn't worry about it too much. A better quality power supply like a Corsair or Seasonic would be better to me than buying something because it lists itself as 80+ Platinum, if in doubt, look for quality tests and reviews to see if they actually do fit the bill. Aergan Posted May 20, 2014 Share Posted May 20, 2014 I would go with Gold or higher certification these days as somewhere along the lines, at least some testing has been done. So many cheap PSU's (even from reputable brands) have little or no adequate shielding and questionable component build quality - but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. I usually go with something ?65+ from Antec or Coolermaster with whichever has the highest efficiency rating & satisfies load wattage requirements. Coolermaster do release some horrible and questionable products - however they do test their power supplies and provide adequate shielding to prevent EMI in most models I have encountered (with the exception of entry level POS / OEM < 350w non-painted lines). They dont really have a market share in US - and their dumb naming scheme doesnt help - but you are right - apparently they are quality. I used to ONLY use PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool - now - I will use any of the premium brands - antec is as low as I would go and feel good about a build.
