Transistor review(s): SuperGiant makes its stunning PS4 debut

Recommended Posts

The studio ditched publishers for the release of Transistor, but I don?t think the game will be a hard sell without the might of a big company behind it. If there?s any justice in the world this game will shift units due to its many qualities, and will hopefully sit in stark contrast to the endless cycle of sequels and uninspired ideas that continue to bog the AAA world down.

Do yourself a favour and seek out Transistor to remind yourself that this industry?s imagination isn?t all dried up; you just need to look away from the dizzying shadow of those tired blockbusters to see it.

Bastion was a great game, this looks to be sprinkled with the same talent, maybe not going to be as well received but play away!

Apparently the OST is amazing.

So when is it actually being released? it's not even up on the Sony store for pre-order.

Out yesterday in America, today in EU.

Looks and sounds great but with watch dogs out next week I'm gonna leave it and hope it goes free or massively reduced later on in the year

It took really long to download, like two hours for a 3GB file, while Wolfenstein's 5GB patch was like 20 minutes or something. Anyway, haven't tried Transistor yet but am sure it is great.

Got into it for a little while, it's not bad. Reminds me of a cross between Shadowrun Returns, Remember Me, and Hard Reset because of the types of enemies you fight and the nature of the cityscape. Overall quite nice, need to spend more time with it to really make a call.

I played an hour or so of it last night, the game is gorgeous, and while it's not normally the type of game I'd play I'm still finding it enjoyable.

The "Turn()" mode is slightly annoying though, I can't seem to aim attacks well and they randomly don't seem to register (Sometimes I'll aim 45 degrees off from where Red is facing, or sometimes attacks count as backstabs and sometimes they don't) I might just be using it wrong though, if there was a tutorial it didn't play properly for me (First time it showed up it cut off dialog.)

There's no real tutorial, it's very brief. Many elements of the game are quite confusing, like I have no idea if it's even possible to lose. However, it is a very nice and unique experience, liking it so far.

I had my ass handed to me in one fight and it disabled one of my powers (One of my better one annoyingly), had to go and re-quip it at an access point (Heals over time)

Yes, i believe that is the worst case scenario..."dying" means losing powers, then they repair over time. Guess if the last power is lost she just re-spawns at the last checkpoint. The fights can be super tough and confusing. Those Young Ladies (or Girls?) are badass, and the Process forces never seem to miss a shot.

This game is built on mood and nice touches, cause otherwise the play mechanics and progression are nothing special, quite linear and repetitive - so far.

Does anyone else have issues with surround sound for the game? It will not output in surround sound for me.  Every other game works except this one.
