Should I wait for the G3 or just get a GS5?

21 posts in this topic

I was planning on getting a Galaxy S5 this Saturday but some co-workers are telling to wait for the G3, how LG is pushing trends in the mobile market. I'm just not sure If I will benefit from the extra 1GB of RAM on the G3, my current phone has 256mb of RAM and I just want a phone that can run stuff like kik, gps in the background and have tabbed browsing lag free. I do a lot of memory intensive tasks on my workstation but I did feel the need to upgrade my phone since I've had it for 3 years. I'm just not sure If I'll be depending on my phone that much more than I already do. My new job requires a lot of hours from me so there's not much time to be home like I use to have.

The S5 is better than the S3.

I would wait for the G3. The reveal is next week. Might as well get new tech if it's going to be the same price and it's coming out around the time your looking to upgrade

SG5 is plastic, G3 is quality. Or get a Z2.

G3 all the way.  Touchwiz is the cause of Samsung phone lag and is a bloated pile of crap.  LG has their own UI as well, but it is much better than TW.

LG G3 is rumored to come in a 5.5inch IPS LCD screen that will be 2560 x 1440 resolution 538ppi. Samsung's GS5 comes in 5.1-inch Super AMOLED full HD screen, with 1920 x 1080 resolution and 432 ppi.

Personally I would take g5, because 5 inch is already as large as i see comfortable for a phone.

In fact I would actually try to get g2 on the cheap, since it price will likely be less, now that g3 is coming.   G2 is a great phone, and I SERIOUSLY doubt the tangible benefits of owning G3 over G2.  Seriously why do you need G3?  There is barely any apps that use the full power of G2!

If that were true, then nothing past the Nexus 4 / GS3 / G2 would of came out. But manufacturers are adding more ram and cpu because "android can use all of it". So, if your going to buy technology why not buy the latest especially since your spending the same amount of money.

In 3 years, who knows, maybe the GS5 won't hold up but the G3 will.

Things are evolving so fast nowadays that 'waiting for the next phone' is almost stupid. You're gonna wait for Phone #1, and by the time that comes out, Company X will announce Phone #2 which will look a bit better, and so on.... Things are just moving way too fast.

Absolutely, I recall last year was the debut of 1080p smartphones and we're already emerging into 2K.

I guess there's no point in being impatient just for a few weeks, I'll wait for the G3.

This argument only works if you are planning to be using the same phone in 3 years.    Since I got my first mobile phone in 1997, I have NEVER used the same phone for OVER 3 years!  Upgrades, or simple broken/lost/stolen phones.

Not once have I ever used the same phone for over 3 year (my home phone excluded)

The resulution shift was huge, i loved 720p phones and 1080p was still a somewhat noticeable improvement, but after that it does not improve anything.

5" is also the reasonable limit, as the human hand only grows so big!

This spec chasing is getting ridicuous, and they need to find other means to differentiate.     We went through the LARGE - SMALL - LARGE cycle already. there are physical limits in each direction, after which the phone becomes unusable.

Im glad you read the OP's Post. Because if you would have, you would have seen the following

..."but I did feel the need to upgrade my phone since I've had it for 3 years."

Which means he HAS used his phone in 3 years and has no problem with it besides the lack of RAM. So for people like him, who have no problem using technology until its completely useless, its worth recommending the latest and greatest.

Honestly, we (the techies) only upgrade to newer stuff cause its faster and better. I have no need to upgrade my phone every 2 years, I've actually had my 3GS for 3 1/2 years, then went to a Nexus 4 and Nexus 5. The only reason I've upgraded in the last 2 years is the nexus 4 was lacking in some important areas for me, and the Nexus 5 fixed those. I have no need to go away from my nexus 5 besides any failure that would cost to much to fix.

Biggest problem is, its not EASY to buy at all

I don't know much about the OnePlus One, tbh I don't know what seperates this phone from all the rest. I live in the U.S. so I don't know how attainable it will be for me.

I think you meant to say "you haven't" read.  otherwise you statement makes no sense.

i see your point too.   i kinda agree, but i still  recommend trying to find g2 on the cheap.   he might have to upgrade slightly earlier, but he will have a much better monetary deal.

and overall, the phone that is perfect for next 2 years, as there is absolutely nothing spec wise that will improve the experience tremendously

if there is, point it to me!    andriod os runs smooth as a butter on G2.   i don't see it changing. In fact Google is more focused on optimizing the OS

rather then adding new features.  Kinda like Win7 runs better on machines then Win Vista.    Even though years went by, the new OS runs better on older machines, then the older OS.

what are the necessary improvement in next 3 years? that would make G2 obsolete? as far as i know, there are none, so far!

Not to put down your valid points but the monetary incentive doesn't really play that big of a role for me. I can afford any of these flagship phones but I just want features that will matter to me such as USB 3, IP67, and great batt life.

If you want water protection, the Sony is the way to go. They are the front runner of waterproof phones.

Though I am not up to date with this things...   G3 offer ip67?  and G2 did not?      well, damn, its a decent reason to get g3.

So, really, you can pick on the things you want to most, and the answer to which phone you want should be obvious to you.    Asking here will not help more...  as only you know what features are core.

Agreed and thank you.

I can appreciate the amount of choice out there due to the fierce competition out now. The GS5 will be my choice.
