Might have to change from Sky to BT, how's performance, no throttling?

I might need to change to BT's Unlimited Broadband package soon after being with Sky Unlimited Broadband for ages. I never had any problems with Sky, I never noticed any speed throttling or anything.

 

BT's website 'does' say it doesn't throttle speeds, and compares it to Virgin and EE in their example, but I wanted to ask for myself, is BT's 'Totally Unlimited Broadband' a good broadband to go with? Will it screw my speeds if I happen to use torrents or did any other P2P things?

 

I never got any letters from sky for any reason, would BT?

 

 

 

Also assuming BT is comparable in quality to Sky, do they allow you to use your own router, if not is there a way around it? Sky don't really let you use your own router, but there's ways of getting the username and password off of it to use on your own router.

You can use your own modem with BT. They'll push you to use a HomeHub but if you ask they should give you the details.

Why do you need to leave Sky?

Just make sure you check the T&Cs and you should be fine. If there's no mention of throttling (even for using P2P) there's no reason they should throttle you. 

 

Just out of curiosity, why are you moving from Sky to BT? I've joined Sky this year and it's been excellent so far, never experienced any throttling, capping or letters.

If it's just BT fibre you want, look at PlusNet, it's owned by BT, so you get all the infrastructure, but a much better service. If you go through Topcashback, the rebates and the offers keep the cost really low.

bskyb is cheaper and the speeds are unlimited and constantly stay at around same speed.

 

B.T. however like to raise the cost without telling you they also raise prices of the other items you may without telling you.

 

When I contacted B.T. before going to bskyb on fibre optics, B.T. took two more years that they should had done to install fibre oprtics, they gave me a tissue of lies on when it would finally be done.

 

They said they would send me details via email with updates.

 

They then told me a date when I could receive fibre optics and that was a lie as it took 5 months later than the initial date.

 

They also said, if I added an extra 6 months to my contract they would double my speed, that was all lies.

 

B.T. are a joke, stick with bskyb you get discounts for having telephone line, t.v. and internet.
