Half-Life 3 Is 'Being Worked On', Confirms Counter-Strike Creator

Ex-Valve developer and creator of Counter Strike Le Minh has revealed that, yes, Half-Life 3 is a thing.

Fabled Valve game Half-Life 3 is in the works, confirms creator of Counter-Strike Le Minh.

Minh previously worked at Valve on the Counter Strike franchise, but has since left to work on his own projects. However during a Twitch interview (spotted by NeoGAF), Minh confirmed that he had seen Half-Life 3 content.

He specifies concept art and images that 'could be in the Half-Life universe' as some of the things he had seen, but all the same a direct confirmation that it is happening will no doubt excite some.

"I think it's kind of public knowledge that people know that it is being worked on, so if I was to say 'yeah, I've seen some images' like some concept art of it that wouldn't be big news."

We've seen proposed leaked Half-Life 3 concept art before, so that's hardly a surprise.

"I guess I could say that I did see something that could be in the Half-Life universe. I mean it wouldn't surprise anyone if I said yeah they're working on it.

"To go out on a limb, I would say I did see some Half-Life 3 concept art."

He then adds that the fact that Half-Life 3 is happening - and that it is common knowledge - is "old news by now".

Minh then went on to discuss the "new Left 4 Dead", though he seemed to be under the impression that it had already been announced by Valve.

It has not.

"It wouldn't be any news if I said 'yes, I saw it' and it looks great," said Minh. "I was really excited when I saw that, like 'wow, this looks great'."

So there you have it, Half-Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 both confirmed. Sort of.

Great news. Already looking forward to it's 2026 release :p

I like your optimism but more like E3 announcement in 2026 and leaked alpha 6 weeks later.

I never get why people act so shocked when this news is reposted for the millionth time.

"Half-Life 3" aka "Half-Life 2 Episode 3" has been in development since around when EP2 went gold. The problem is the project keeps hitting big paradigm shifts, first the critical reception of the Orange Box (Portal somewhat eclipsing EP2), then the decision to create Source 2, and more recently Source 2 switching to OpenGL - not that they're just not bothering to develop it.

Don't do that. Set aside your expectations, else you will be disappointed.

In fairness when 4Chan visited Valve for Gabe Newell's birthday, they asked him about half life 3, he didn't shrug them off, he told them it would be worked on when the new source engine was complete, and at the time they were awaiting the next gen consoles to be finalised before completing the engine.
