Scraggles
So here I am... sitting at work... eating my lunch. Grilled chicken breast that I made last night... After cooking I always leave the grill on for a few more minutes to char whatever is on the grates for easy scraping... Well... I did that... but... never went out to clean the grill... To begin, I know things are MOSTLY ok because the house didn't burn down overnight. But I don't really know what to expect when I get home... I mean, I believe I left it on high overnight... Think I'll see anything bad happened to my grill? I mean.. my BRAND NEW grill? I just bought the damn thing a week ago. I'm stuck here for another 3 hours... Scraggles
Call somebody to turn it off. Sounds like a carbon city mess. I doubt there is any gas left in the tank now. It was 17 hours ago. What do you mean by 'carbon city mess'
Dot Matrix
Should be fine. It'll put itself out if you've run out of gas.
Scraggles
Should be fine. It'll put itself out if you've run out of gas. Theoretically, if I left it on high, will it damage the grill? I believe I left it on about medium.

What do you mean by 'carbon city mess' I meant you may have a bad mess to clean off. I would not assume that the grill can't start a fire. I would call someone right away. No one I can call. No point either. If I did leave it on, without a doubt it is out of gas. I left work this morning, at 7am and I didn't smell anything that caught my attention. My girlfriend left for work 4 hours later and didn't say anything so she must not have noticed either.
episode
Hum, you're overreacting. It will be fine, nothing will burn down, the grill will be fine. You'll probably be getting new propane soon, though. You won't smell anything (gas or otherwise) because after all that time everything that can burn, has.

I hope it is outside? You say grill, do you mean oven? Point being, if it is a gas oven or gas grill and you for some reason used a gas grill inside your house..... be vary cautious that the flame/pilot light could have gone out and filled the house with gas. If so be careful when you go home not to spark or trigger anything electric and vent the house with fresh air ASAP.
Scraggles
There is always the Fire department. Call the Fire department for what? SO they can cut the lock on my security gate, and then tell me that no, the house has not sustained any damage? I know the house is fine as I would know by now if it had caught fire. WORST case scenario my grill is a puddle in the back of my house. Best case scenario, I'm wrong and I DID remember to turn it off and just forgot to clean it. I'm thinking I did leave it on, and it is out of gas but hell, if it was your house and brand new grill you'd worry too!

notta
Well if you decide to grill tonight it should be done the second the meat hits the grill. Charisma, Crisp and Bamsebjørn 3 Share
Scraggles
I hope your home is still there .... good luck. I know the house is fine. Fire sensors would have notified me by now if any smoke was detected. Not to mention, the grill is about 20 feet away from the house.
episode
Just so everyone (especially Hum) is clear: Leaving a grill on overnight is not unheard of, and does not harm it. I do it a few times a year when I'm doing barbecue ribs. Granted, it isn't on high, but its the same difference.
Scraggles
So I got home, and everything is fine. The gas tank is empty though. Just glad the grill is fine. Hum, Dot Matrix, Charisma and 1 other 4 Share
+LogicalApex MVC Posted May 24, 2014 MVC Share Posted May 24, 2014 So I got home, and everything is fine. The gas tank is empty though. Just glad the grill is fine. If the grill sustained any damage I would return it for a refund while you still can... As the grill should be capable of being run at its top temps all day everyday... Charisma Veteran Posted May 24, 2014 Veteran Share Posted May 24, 2014 Glad everything is OK. I figured it would be, but you're right--new things, of course it was reasonable to be concerned. I wonder if they make timers for that. Like, after you've finished cooking, some sort of device you can set to 5 or 10 mins and then it will cut the gas. (I guess you could also just set an alarm to remind you to go back out to turn it off yourself... but I'm sure grill-timers exist...)
