Are we sure all profit goes to maintaining the memorial? I'm sure that wouldn't be right.

"The 9/11 Memorial, a non-profit organization, does not receive federal, state or city funding, and 60 to 70 percent of its budget comes from tickets, online sales and the gift shop, says the memorial's communications manager, Anthony Guido."

It's a non profit organization with very high salaries for the board and those who run it ;)

Non profit org is such a misnomer and generally don't mean what people think it means.

It doesn't mean that people who work for non profit, make no money, it means at the end of the fiscal year, they have a profit of $0.

meaning any extra money they have, they spend it to achieve their goal.

Forget cheese platters, the whole idea of a gift shop and charging admission to a memorial is pretty tasteless. Aren't most memorials funded by private organizations and tax money and open freely to the public? They claim they can't scrape up enough money to pay for the 9/11 memorial but they sure have plenty to throw away on other useless crap, and of course their war machine.

This has nothing to do with the fed and your irrational hate of the Military, the land and building have always been owned by NYC, mismanaged by the same people that created the "non profit" to line their pockets with, NY Liberal at their best

Maybe if Congress could get over itself and provide funding to the museum and memorial, tickets and gift sales wouldn't be needed at all. You can't just run this for free, someone has to pay to keep the place open and if the government is too incompetent to handle it, the museum will have to do it itself.

"Sen. Tom Coburn is blocking legislation that would provide $20 million a year in federal funding for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at ground zero, demanding that co-sponsors of the bill come up with cuts to pay for the spending, his office confirmed to POLITICO."  http://www.politico....l#ixzz32lWg9Nv1

Of course what else would you expect from the guy who "initially opposed federal funding for first-responders injured by the toxic cleanup in the wake of the terrorist attacks." - http://www.foxnews.c...emorial-museum/

I don't hate the military, I hate them being used as world police in places we have no business being or the ridiculous amounts of money wasted on it that could be put to far better use helping people at home and fixing our infastructure.

As I recall from another topic ,non profit doesn't evened mean non profit, but more of limited profit or something.

nonprofit organization (NPO) or not-for-profit organization is an organization that uses surplus revenues to achieve its goals rather than distributing them as profit or dividends
