Does the Sony's Z1 Compact will receive 4.4.3?

Recommended Posts

My plan is about to run out and I can get, among others, a z1 compact for pennies if I renew. I was planning on getting back to iOS, but the compact features and design are tempting me, specially that metal and glass body that reminds me of what it is the best designed phone ever (for me): the iPhone 4s.

Also, a 20 mp camera and a quad core in a tiny form seems beyond attractive.

What worries me is kitkat 4.4.2. I've heard nothing bu problems about it: battery drain, camera problems, in-call sound bugs, absurd SD card limitations. Fortunately this handset will come with 4.3 so I can wait a little and I've heard that most of these issues are resolved on 4.4.3.

My other option is an iPhone 4s for free. Not a bad choice considering my investment on the iOS ecosystem. I'm torn apart.

cant say ive got a problem with 4.4.2 on my s3

Yeah, these bugs seems to appear erratically, however the number of people reporting them is intimidating me. My main concern in a phone is battery life.

I have a z1 compact, and although I cannot say anything about 4.4.3, I can say overall, I'm very happy with it, (4.4.2, the only thing I don't like is the newer pseudo playstation startup screen)

overall it's an extremely impressive smartphone, (you cannot set up group ringtones, but my s3 kept forgetting custom set tones, so just being able to set up the odd individual tone and the phone actually remembering them will have to do for me)

It's a huge plus over my old sgs3 which although a very good phone, I didn't bond with it, the z1c reminds me a little of my old nokia n8 for it's ease of use battery's actually impressive, unless you're running everything all the time, I can easily get 5 days out of it, longer if I run in stamina mode and just use the phone as a telephone (no smartphone features)<but this depends a lot on the amount of 'smart feature' use>

if you were in the uk I would recommend trialling one for a fortnight, to see how you get on with it.

Reading this is encouraging. I always use my phones as communication tools (whatsapp and email reading including), very light web browsing and no gaming, although it would be nice to sell the ipod and use the sd slot with a 64gb memory.

Five days you say? that's amazing!

If what you say it's true this is a no brainer.

Edit: By the way, is it true that the plastic film over the screen scratches easily? I understand this film is used as an anti-shatter solution, but it is easily replaceable?

That's something I've been thinking about for a while, I keep saying I'll get a 64gb card, but I haven't needed the extra space yet, (even with my music on a 16gb card it's just over half full)

Oh, the android music systems (in the z1's case, the Walkman app) isn't as loud as an ipod or my wife's now useless iphone4, but that's true of all androids, I've not heard one as loud using my headphones as my old n8, my wife iphone, or the lumia 1020, so please bear that in mind if you like your music loud, then the iphone or a nokia windows phone will be louder. sorry I should have mentioned that earlier

edit, if this is not important to you, or you don't use your phone for music, then feel free to disregard this post

I do use my phones heavily for music, but not very loud. How is your unit handling the scratches?

I have a screen protector and it almost never leaves it's case, unless I'm using my wireless charger, so it's still pristine (I'm too afraid of dropping my phone so at least in a case it'll give it some cushioning)

Well, it's decided. I truly miss the iOS ecosystem on my phone. But I also like Android's customizing abilities and, since I have an iPad mini, I can still take advantage of both ecosystems strengths.

I have the Xperia Z2. Snapdragon 801, 5.2" full HD screen etc. You would expect it to have a short battery life, wouldn't you?

And you'd be wrong. Even with heavy usage I get close to 2 days out of one full charge.
