ESRB, PEGI, etc?

Ah yea, I noticed PEGI taking over.

I'm just hoping ESRB and PEGI are the only two systems I have to worry about when listing all these games.

Don't forget Japan's CERO. There are dozens of these systems in many jurisdictions, but ESRB, PEGI, and CERO are the biggest.

Yea I happen to finally find the list of all the rating systems. But this is so much work for WordPress metadata.

You might want to do some research about this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Protecting_Children_from_Information_Harmful_to_Their_Health_and_Development

Russia is a pretty big market.

I had that in mind a while ago.

I'm thinking about making the trailers present an Age box before playing. Similar to Xbox.com's media, for starts.

Matter of fact, I'm trying to theoretically make it safer for logged in users for those 13+ and up.

We can't do much for those who are anonymous, but we can form some type of protection from time to time.

If you're talking about a game you're developing or even just showing game content in a presentation, i wouldn't worry about ratings systems too much. Those are mostly voluntary and have no legal standing, unless your content is deemed literally obscene and thus subject to regulation. ESRB is entirely voluntary, most of the stuff Steam sells has never been rated and they have no problem with that. The stuff you see on Xbox and PS commercials is them playing nice because they are major enterprises and because their channel partners like Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart demand it due to their own family-minded approach.

In other words, unless your content is extremely mature, i would not worry about it in most major markets - Japan being the exception, I believe CERO is mandatory.

i wonder if the ratings will be different if those raters-orgs are right winger or left winger?

They all try to keep it neutral from what i know. ESRB uses a random system much like the jury duty system, and most times they prefer people who don't even play games that much, because clearly a gamer will slap an E rating on Manhunt 3 given the chance

I don't think they are either left or right wing, but rather in the service of such leanings. Don't forget ESRB was formed reluctantly by the industry in response to an ultimatum from Congress, effectively. This was all due to moral panic over Doom, Mortal Kombat, and others. These days people are much less likely to even notice. Wolfenstein's love scene was a ton more suggestive than the goofy and comical stuff in Mass Effect, but of course that one allowed us to go the way of the gay so people panicked.
