New AMD Build $1100/

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.

Id like to get different opinions on a new build I want to do on AMD hardware (CPU/GPU).  Rather not pick APUs. Not really a fan of them.

I dont have nothing spare for it so Id need everything.

But here is the tricky part. Since Id want to offload the cash in two months (?400 one month and ?400 the other) maybe someone can also suggest what to buy first and what to buy last.

Mainly for gaming on 1080p and some CryEngine work.

Thanks. :)

If I were you, I'd actually get an APU, so you can use it until you get your GFX card.

Other than that, I guess you could get you case later, just get your computer up and loading on a piece of cardboard (non-conductive material)

But to run your system, you need at the bare, motherboard, CPU, PSU, RAM and HDD/SSD.

The thing is, this is not my first build. Done 3 for myself before but in this price range it is so I am a little confused what to get price/performance wise.

So to say I am fishing for ideas :P The two month plan aint neccessary but would be a bit easier :)

Any reason you are so towards AMD? Intel are so much better.

Cheaper I would imagine, but AMD GPU's are definitely really good.

FX-8320 (~130?)

990FX Sabertooth (or GA-990FXA-UD5, if it isn't available / both ~140?)

Patriot RAM or anything but Crucial, really

BeQuiet Dark Rock or something (~60?)

R9 270X 4GB (~200?)

Corsair CS550M (~80?)

Any SSD you want

Any HDD if you want one at all

Hmm, did I hit it? Named components hit 610?... gosh, my brain must have FDIV bug or something.

Saber and 8320 sound fine but the GPU seems a bit..low? I have no idea about the 270x to be honest. Ive only heard things about 280x and up.

If I'm not mistaken about prices up there, I'm afraid can't really stuff that into 800? build. Perhaps 280 no-X 3 GB, that one goes 220-230?.

Otherwise you'll have to start cutting down on something - take away 80+ Gold PSU, aesthetics. Hard to cut down on Saber. It's probably the best 990FX board I've seen and will see.

Yeah, the PSU is one thing I wont cut. Ill take a look on the web on the 270x reviews but the one you offerd me seems to fit my budget just about.

I meant for CPU's only. I have a 7850 myself. :)

The FX-6300 is still a good value for the money, especially if you overclock it. If you're looking to spend more on a CPU though, I couldn't recommend any AMD CPU as you could find better values on Intel's side. If you must insist, the FX-8320 is still decent.

Lots of good options for AMD GPUs though, it's mainly just a matter of how much you're ready to spend. For 1080p gaming an R9 280 should be good.
