Sony has rejigged PlayStation Plus to offer two games per month for each platform as part of the Instant Game Collection.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Computer Entertainment's PS Store and Plus content manager Chris Howe said Sony's goal is offer a "more balanced set of games" each month.

Sony will also adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available from the first Wednesday of the month and will be free for that month until the first Wednesday of the following month.

Howe warned that several of the games that have been a part of the Instant Game Collection for a long time will be phased out.

Meanwhile, Sony announced the PS Plus titles for June, which includes Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate on PS4, NBA 2K14 on PS3 and Dragon's Crown on Vita.

The full list is below.

I know we have a topic for content, but to me this is news worthy as it describes how the service is going to change.

Well that kind of sucks, but it also was pretty much expected, at least from me.
As long as they make the quality better on the offerings, I see nothing wrong with this as it was usually 1 good game being offered and 1 not so good game.

So hopefully they are all good from now on.

What I really took out of the article was PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate for the PS4??? Count me in! Love that damn game.

So does this mean the "annual" games will be removed?

And totally fine to create a new topic for the news (Y)

edit:

From Fred in the comments:

Chris will be along to answer questions soon, but just to clarify, the annual ?evergreen? titles will not be replaced. Instead, you?ll be getting one additional PS4 game every month. So, 2 x PS3, 2 x PS4 and 2 x Vita each month for the foreseeable future

That kinda sucks, but at least it's an even split now between platforms (Y) More PS4 games is ok with me. Overall I think we'll have more games per year with the "evergreens" removed, but they need to start offering the AAA titles for PS4 soon to make up for it IMO.

Pixel Junk for PS4?  I'm sold.. i know I was not a fan of my ps3 (pixel junk shooter 1 & 2 prob got the most playtime while I owned a ps3) I have been holding off buying a ps4 due to lack of interest in the games and limited playing time (2 kids).  But games like pixel junk are great for quick sessions.

So just to clarify, does this mean that they are changing the service to offer two games each month for each platform?

If that is true, then that seems ok to me, it certainly makes it easier to keep the services straight. Now I can expect two new games each month for my ps4 and ps3. Come June, I'll be getting 8 free games a month across four platforms.

I have to say, that is a lot of free games and it makes it so much easier for me to convince myself to wait on buying games at launch.

So we get the game for a month only now?

No, it's very poorly explained. It makes more sense when you think of PS+ in the US. In the UK we get all the games at once at the start of the month, but in the US the games are rolled out at different times.

Going forward all the games will be available on the first Wednesday of the month until the next in both regions. The games join and leave at the same time, but will still be yours to download as long as you are subscribed.

For us in the UK it's business as usual, but for US it means that you will have longer than 7 days to claim a title, and instead have the full 31 days.

e.g from May's lineup, US+ members were only able to download Puppeteer starting on May 19th. But the UK members could download it April 30th (due to the way the calendar was this month).

Correct, every month 2 PS4 games, 2 PS3 games and 2 Vita games.

Ahh that's alright then, I tried looking for clarification but there 2 distinct camps of people who'd interpreted it different ways.

I don't see how this is a bad thing. The yearly games have gone and in their place we have 6 games a month.

Most are annoyed because they feel like there is less content for the PS3 now and because the annual/monthly Vita games never really took off like they said.

IMO it's a good change providing they use it as an opportunity to get more AAAs into Plus. We'll have a total of 72 games a year across all 3 platforms. That's a lot of value even before you consider the other benefits.

People just interpret that instead of 9 games a month they'll only have 6, when really the 3 static games obviously didn't add value after your first month of the year.

Most PS4 owners probably have a PS+ sub so it totally makes sense they want to start offering more content for that system.

If you don't own a PS4 yet make sure you redeem the games each months so when you do get one (Yes I said when) you'll have plenty of content :D

On another note: do we know what the June content for PS+ is yet? (EU)

Whoops, Just zeen the topic, never mind.

this sound good to me. i hate to sound entitled, but i've been waiting for a 'bigger' title for the PS4 since launch. I literally only have that weird French game and Resogun. Both are fine, but i'd like a "full" game. Plus, lately, it seems like PS+ has only been releasing indies, which i dont care for.

When PS+ started giving PS3 games, it had a huge back catalog from which they could draw from. PS4's version of Plus is moving along at the same pace of the console. Your getting some Indie titles on the release date or shortly after, but there still isn't enough breadth that can give out an AAA or even AA title for the PS4. That time will certainly come in the future and the first one will certainly be inFamous Second Son.

Nah, it'll be Knack :P

The issue with AAA games and Plus just now is due to the library being scarce in retail, everything, Knack included, will still be selling quite decently. Giving away something on Plus will grind retail sales to a halt. Which of the two makes more money .... bingo.

I actually read it wrong when it was first announced, I thought they were bringing it down to 2 games total a month for + across all platforms. This is obviously much better than I initially thought.

Woah, that would suck

Well I actually was okay with it as I thought it would have meant two solid games as opposed to the offerings now, which always seem to be 1 decent game and 1 not so decent game, so amazingly I was okay with it. But there is also the belief of the more choices the better.

Fair points, I would just worry with only two games there would be a huge chance of me owning one, if not both. A little choice even if some of the games are mediocre is better for someone who invests a lot of money in buying content, IMO.
