Having a Desktop computer keyboard work with a Samsung Admire phone

I'm trying to get a regular desktop keyboard to work with a Samsung Admire SCH-R720.  I've ordered an adapter that lets me plug in a USB keyboard on one side and the port for the phone where a charger plugs into which is supposed to adapt the keyboard to work with the Samsung but it's not working...what do I need to do to get it to recognize the keyboard and have it work.

Try using a bluetooth keyboard.

Restart with keyboard connected sometimes helps.

Sometimes on my device with an OTA usb adapter, I need to restart it before it my keyboard/mouse works properly. Have you tried that?
