Yellow "screen of death" on gaming rig.

Recommended Posts

Hi, my BF about 2 months ago built a gaming pc and since yesterday he has been getting "yellow screens of death", where one monitor (usually the left 'secondary') turns a solid pale-bright yellow and the main monitor turns black. It doesn't unstuck itself unless its manually rebooted. It started after he began to stream Wildstar in 720p. He has an Intel i7-4770K processor, Asus Maximus Hero VI motherboard, Thermaltake ToughPower 750W (not the new one, the one from last year), Corsair Vengeance 8gb x2 (16) ram (not sure which model it is), Corsair H80i Cooling, Asus GTX 770, Samsung 128gb SSD with a 250gb WD slave, Windows 8.1 64bit.

It would only come down between the PSU and the GPU correct? As far as past issues, when he got the Vengeance ram and clocked it up, the PSU began making some weird buzzing sound several days later and then stopped after he downclocked it back to 1800. He tried reinstalling the Nvidia drivers just to be sure, and just waiting on it to happen again.

Anybody have any ideas on why this is doing it? And can a faulty/dying PSU be the cause, and how?

Different drivers are a good place to start, having experienced some issues with NVidia drivers myself...

Do you have a readout on the GPU temperature? Is the issue readily reproducible if you run a GPU-intensive activity?

He said if he runs it while streaming for a little while its bound to happen. He also said it happened with Battlefield 3, and he said the temp around the time it crashed was at 61c

Apparently in the time it took me to unplug my phone and take a pic, this happened after whats been happening. Haven't seen this and think its only cause he'd reboot the second it happened.
