'Slenderman' stabbing: Girls, 12, accused of attacking friend to please creepy character

Recommended Posts

I beg your pardon? It is the TRUTH.

People try to blame video games, music, and movies for tragedy around the world day in and day out. Realistically, how much violence have we seen because of video games? VERY little in comparison to Violence that is religion based. I am not trying to start a flame war. I am simply throwing facts out there because I have firsthand dealt with people blaming games/music/movies on events in my life. This is simply NOT the case. This story about this Slenderman stabbing, is a rarity. Yes. We can blame video games on this particular event. The best part is it was not even based on a character that we'd expect... like a GTA or CoD character.

This is no more 'news' than a suicide bomber blowing stuff up in the name of 'Insert God/Diety Here'. That was the point I was getting at.

I don't know many religions that teach people to blow up people, etc  ... They teach what Christ taught, which is , Love one another. They help needy people. Yep that is so terrible. On the other hand, Games like I suppose Grand Theft Auto  have people stealing cars, smoking weed, shooting people, shooting cops, commiting  crimes....   T.V. Shows like Game of Thrones have terrible violence and people killing each other, South Park has all kinds of racist, and hatred, people smoking weed, illegal crimes... The new Southpark video game is intentionally making fun of jews/ etc which we all know...

Something to consider though, where would a child get the idea to bring a gun to school and shoot people? Maybe/ or maybe not because he has played games like GTA, C.O.D., South Park, etc ...  I don't blame the games as long as they have a proper mature rating. The parents should monitor their child.

SO.... no I don't blame games entierely  but saying they probably have a factor, but it's mostly the parents fault if they do.

Oh god. I hate to say this, but now we have to ban the internet. It's killing people. BAN an inanimate object! Before it kills more people! Of course, it's not the people that are at fault. May as well ban knives too. And farts. Almost gassed myself to death this morning. BAN ALL TEH FARTZ!

The only people to blame are the girls and their parents, if your 12 years old daughter thinks that killing a person is a good idea there's some serious problem.

I don't think it's fair to blame the parents without knowing the situation.

The same can be said for any age thinking 'God' is real. And look, we have wars where entire countries kill each other in 'his' name. Pathetic really.

God is the only thing that is real.

For unbelievers no proof is possible. For believers no proof is necessary.

Want to argue about it? Go to the Religion forum. It's getting tedious elsewhere.

A well educated and sane kid in my opinion couldn't do anything similar.

This. I'm really getting sick of the blame/punish the parents mentality that people immediately jump to anymore when a child or teenager does something wrong. Children aren't robots that are guaranteed to behave a certain way provided their parents condition them to do it. Sometimes even the best parents can end up with a child capable of wrongdoing. Kids learn at a very young age to behave differently around their parents and other authority figures than they do when out with friends.
