Brian Miller
I'm thinking of getting Xfinity but I don't want to pay monthly for their modem. Can someone recommend me a good modem & router that is compatible with Xfinity? Also, can I use the Apple router Airport Extreme as an Xfinity modem? COKid
I use a D-Link DIR-825 Router (been around for several years) and a Motorola SB6141 cable modem. Works fine with Xfinity in Colorado. SB6121 is a less spendy option and is DOCSIS 3.0, as well. Try this link: http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/
goretsky Supervisor Posted June 4, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted June 4, 2014 Hello, Like COKid, I would lean towards a Motorola SURFBoard SB6141 cable modem. Recently, I have been using a D-Link DIR-868L for my router and have been quite happy with it. Before that, I was using a NetGear WNDR3700 and quite happy with that as well. I also have a Cisco LInksys E4200 at another location, and that seems to be working fine. I have a Securifi Almond+ (purchased through Kickstarter) that's on the way, as well, but it hasn't arrived yet. Do not get a modem with an integrated router, as you may wish to update the cable modem or the router more frequently depending up on what new technology becomes available. Or one part may break.
