HTC One (M8) or alternatively the Sony Xperia Z2. The Galaxy S5 as it stands isn't worth the premium Samsung are charging for it. Plastic non-descript design, TouchWiz, Samsung bloatware - just no.

the only thing that put me off the M8 was the 4mp Camera, but still undecided

+1 For steering away from samsung cheap build (s4 owner)

If you can I'd consider the 1+1

Also if you do decide to go with either samsung or htc. PLEASE FOR HEAVENS SAKE go with the Google Play Edition.

HTC, although the pixelsize is smaller the quality of pictures is excellent, my friend took some photos using their HTC and i was amazed at how well it got the color balance and the crispness of the shots, i use an iPhone 5 and mine were a slightly bit more blurrier than theirs.

Agreed, that's what I'm choosing between, and out of those two I'm leaning more towards the Z2.

From the choices you've listed, Haggis, I would say the M8. But I would suggest looking at the Z2.

What is important to you?

Customization? First shot at apps? Camera quality? Consistency? Stability? Integration with other services? Something else?

Without knowing what you want from a phone it's hard to make a recommendation.

From an s5 owner, it's really nice.   yea, it does have the extra crap-bloat, but i kinda like the touchwiz interface.

battery life is incredible and so is the screen, but the 16gig's of memory i don't care for, coming from 32gigs on my s3

I only have recent experience of owning Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhone devices (S5, S4, S III, 4S, 4, 3G)

I like my S5. I personally love TouchWiz and the hardware is up there with the best. I have a 7500 mAh battery inside and it's fantastic.

I would go with the LG G3 myself.  Have the G2 currently.  Steering clear of Samsung devices as they are bloated and the Moto E is faster opening many apps over the S5.  TW slows down the phone.

The S5 is a nice one.

Or this one.

though it's not on your list I'm with the others in Recommending the Sony Z2. I have the ZL myself and it's a remarkable phone and the Z2 is just better in almost every way

comparing it to a samsung galaxy phone the specs are just as good if not better in some areas and the build quality just feels better (personally hate the cheap plastic feeling of the galaxy line)

Personally, don't like the screen ratio of the Z2 and LG2 and g3. You have to take into account that the buttons ARE  NOT part of the screen so a good 2 inches go to waste :/

What about the Oppo Find 7 with QHD screen that is about to be released the coming days outside of China (yes the QHD version is released in China now)?

That phone is pretty nice and have tons of great features like 'Rapid Charge', Super Zoom that takes 50-Megapixels pictures, Skyline Notification, Stereo speakers on the back and it will soon come with a carbon cover as you can see a picture of under here.

The only thing it lacks is a more updated Android version now, but Oppo have an Android 4.4.2 version running internally in the company now, so it's around the corner anyways.

out of the 3, I would choose the S5, but like others said, it would depend on your priorities of certain phone characteristics. i just picked up a iPhone 5s 64 gig for my upcoming vacation but the S5 was almost chosen instead.

The z1 compact, or wait for the z2 compact, if you like sane hand-sized screens.

What made you choose the 5s over the Samsung? My 4s doesn't hold a charge for any length of time, I was attempting to hold out for the iPhone 6 release but the 4s just won't make. My wife just received an S5 as her work phone and so far I love it.

I haven't used an Android phone since my old HTC Droid Eris though I have android based tablets so I'm familiar with and like the OS.

Have recently purchased a Z2 and am very happy with it.

Had an HTC One X for a couple of years and just fancied something different from HTC (and didnt fancy the S5 due to the UI and the feel of the phone)

1020 is out of date now. The only thing good about it now is the 41 PX camera. If you want an android phone then Galaxy S5 is the better choice. More app, little better spec and support is for better then HTC. Plus the resale is so much better. Also water resistance

i have since flipped the choice in phone and got a s4. I know in reports of people claiming the 5s camera is better then the s4, its its TRUE on the device. But when viewed on a PC, the S4 is over all a much better camera. So for now, since pics/videos are my main concern, will be going with s4 for now.

What features do you want? expandable memory? Removable battery? Touchwiz or Sense? Android or Windows?

The best deal on right now is the OnePlus One, $350USD for 64GB that puts the S5 to shame. Heard they offer invites, have terrible support, and just generally don't know what they are doing. oneplus.net if you wanna see the shenanigans.

On top of that the Note 4 is due to drop soon/this fall, which will put all current devices in their place along with the iPhone 6, which of course will create somewhat of a stir among devices.
