Thats surprising. I was reading Bill Brysons biography, and he mentions Rocketmail in the 50's and gave the extreme cost as the reason it never caught on.

Even though trajectories have to be extremely accurate, they won't be nearly as accurate as they need to be to a) avoid accidents and b) get approved by the federal aviation authorities. Not to mention that fossil fuel is costly and running out and the other technologies available to use for launchers just aren't there yet.
