Dynamic weather/snow as well

We've just confirmed that DRIVECLUB will have dynamic rain and snow, which will affect car handling. Plus it looks amazing ;)

New video/interview, but it has footage throughout talking about dynamic weather

The lighting with dash cam looks droolworthy

I highly doubt they'll look that good.

Agreed and we're all used to that by now..our industry and hobby are now just like Maxim and FHM...touch up galore. Of course when you actually meet the object of desire in real life sometimes they look even better au naturelle, sometimes they...don't look that good.

Looks like they might be having issues with background texture popping, take a look at mountain around 1.45

Yeah that was your average texture pop, at least we know this IS actual gameplay now...you get pop on any platform and regardless of spec, it's like the bane of graphics. Occasional is fine, most games don't really have it bad - like RAGE bad on the day it launched, which was patched couple days later. Hopefully Driveclub will get this minimized before launch as well.

Call my a cynic but those look like bullshots to me. I doubt we will see it look like that in-game. Perhaps only in some kind of enhanced Photo mode like Forza had.

"It's all being complemented now by a full weather system being prepared for release soon after launch, and being shown off for the first time at E3. On the Scottish glens of Loch Duich, turbulent weather rolls in, skies thickening before bursting onto the roadsCrowds at the side of the track reach for their macs and umbrellas, winds tug at the trackside scenery while puddles form in the divots and dips of the road surface, as well as across the grass of the glens and across the gravel - Evolution's very, very proud of its gravel, and rightly so..

Over in Norway, dawn breaks over powdered mountains, sending a dreamy purplish blue out across the environment. The heat from the sun dynamically melts the snow, with northern-facing surfaces reacting first. As that sun sets and a storm rolls in, road-signs are reflected in the slicked tarmac, while headlights catch individual rain droplets. The attention to detail is underlined when Evolution pauses the action and sweeps through the static action, ascending up through the clouds - DriveClub's game world is rendered all the way to the heavens, some two kilometres up."

A rush job? You do know its delayed a year, right?

If Forza can release without core mechanics so can drive club. Am I right,?

Yeah and needs another year by the sounds of it.  Releasing a game and having core game engine mechanics as post-release DLC is awful.

Not if they are not there... Besides isn't this dynamic weather just adding races that can start dry and get wet?

They don't 'all do it'...  How many racing games get shipped with core game engine mechanics as DLC??? Utter nonsense.

Unless this whole dynamic weather thing is simply cosmetic and has no effect on car handling (as it would have to be baked into the core physics engine) in which case it is completely pointless.

So the game will play fine from the get go and with the free dlc it will add dynamic weather so race weather changes rather than setting it to say a wet race from the start?

Don't see an issue?

The issue is they're shipping half a game if core mechanics are being shipped as DLC ... This nonsense has to stop. Spend the time getting it right and complete before shipping. How impatient are today's gamers that that can't be appreciated.

This looks nice, but weather in racing games is nothing new. My Sega Genesis with 16-bits high definition graphics did this in Super Monaco GP.

I don't think it's pressure from gamers who are impatient you can blame, but probably Sony pressuring them as it has likely gone over budget.

Rain in Scotland, gotta say, it does look stunning

How have you approached weather in DRIVECLUB?
Alex Perkins: We?ve approached our weather system with the same guiding principles as we?ve done with everything in DRIVECLUB, to make it as immersive and fun as possible. We?ve developed a powerful engine that has the capability to model the entire environment in stunning detail; from each cloud that makes up our living skies, to every crest and fall in the tarmac beneath your wheels.

From there, we?re breathing additional life into the environments by developing the earth?s atmosphere around it. Originally we focussed on authentic lighting and skies as the tool for you to customise stunning backdrops for fun challenges with your friends. Now, we?re developing a dynamic weather system that plays into all of this, adding another powerful tool to your arsenal.

The cloud cover and conditions you choose will dictate how much snow and rain will fall. The wind direction and speed determines where snow will settle. Then when it stops, the temperature and height of the sun governs how quickly clouds evaporate and roads dry out. We?re really striving for consistency in every detail just like we have done with everything else in the game.

What?s the scale of the weather types in the game? Is it just rain or snow, or can we expect drizzle, sleet, downpours, blizzards and so forth?
Alex Perkins: You can expect every one of those and you can expect it to change dynamically and unpredictably while you race ? because we?ve designed it to be just like real weather systems. Spots of rain can become torrential downpours or transition into blizzards, quickly or slowly, and when the clouds clear up the tracks will dry out too.

So if you?re in Norway, for example, you?ll face heavier snow when you?re racing atop the mountains and much lighter snow or sleet when you descend to a lower altitude. Lots of things play into this, like elevation, wind speed and temperature. We can even adjust all the way to zero visibility conditions too ? the only limit will be the need to balance things for fun and usability.

And what about really extreme stuff, like thunder and lightning?
Alex Perkins: Deafening thunder storms with flashes of fork lightning are what we?re aiming for. Our intention is to make this as immersive and exciting as we can.

Agreed on your primary point. Unfortunately these games are getting to be so complex and cost 10's of millions of dollars to create. They have to ship something at some point. While the weather looks fantastic, you have to wonder if the game would have already been released if they had decided to skip it entirely. They could have bumped it to Driveclub 2. Both the PS4 and Xbox One are starved for content. I thought for sure we'd see way more complete, AAA titles on both by now.

I wish Climax still existed - Moto GP was great with rain.
