Parents finally getting an HDTV, which one of these TVs is the best?

Also, if I'm overlooking a better option, let me know. Note that prices are in CDN, and they have a gift card for Best Buy they'd like to use.

Anyway, here are the contenders:

1. LG 60" 1080p 600Hz Plasma HDTV (60PB5600)

2. Samsung 50" 1080p 60Hz LED Smart TV (UN50EH5300FXZC)

I really don't know anything about TVs. Which one is the better TV? Is it close?

Don't bother with plasma, as they tend to do poorly in direct sunlight and exaggerate motion. I'd rather have a 50" LED than a 60" plasma.

Some people argue that plasma's better (or would have, in the past), but they're on their way out as manufacturers have moved on--I think that should tell you everything you need to know.

Plasma TVs have better picture quality, but they're also A LOT heavier and eat a lot more power.

The difference in picture quality will be relatively low, so I'd also recommend the LED.
