Steam Summer Sale 2014

Recommended Posts

I put a game in my cart and forgot to buy it and now the price has gone up slightly.. is it likely to come down again? it was a standard daily deal. (Mortal Kombat)

If it was in the main sale it may appear in the encore on the last day. :)

Or alternatively give them away to your good ol' pal Munky :p

Consider it done, you can have them all heh heh....for a price

I don't even know how to gift them, never tried it, but will check it out :fun:

Meanwhile, finally bought something, and what do you know, my team (pink....) won! So i get...what exactly? Anyway, bought Wolf Among Us, for the price it seemed like a good deal and many members seem to like the series.

No need, I crafted the badge today since my team is going to win tomorrow. Absolute joke how rigged it is but hey ho.

Now I have about 6 spare cards to profit from :P

As for rewards, you get extra trading cards and if you were one of the top contributors for your team winning (30 people iirc), you get 3 games on your wishlist for free.

Well then that's done, i won't get anything hahaha, haven't even spent the $10 yet. And will likely send you cards anyway as they're just sitting in my inventory

The cards devalue fast :P

The instructions didn't mention anything about it being the top 30 from the team, just 30 from the winning team that contributed points. I took this to a be a ticket system, the more points you put in the more likely it is that you'll be picked.

Man I've done well thus far, selling cards at least. Sold about 200 cards and made about $20-$21 bucks, add that with the $9 I had in my wallet before the sale and I had an opportunity to buy a nice handful of games. Thus far I bought the BioShock Trilogy, Monaco, Rouge Legacy, Saints Row IV, and Pac-man CE DX+.

Rouge Legacy? Sounds intriguing

Heh heh just teasing...

Was tempted by the low price on Gone Home just now...but decided against it. Had my fill of walking with Dear Esther, Stanley Parable, Anna, Miasmata, and a couple others that i can't think of right now. I have tapes of X Files at my mom's house if i really feel nostalgic for the 90's, which i don't anymore :jump:

Still Gone Home is an incredible experience if you are between 35 and 40 years old. Anyway i loved it. I would not pay 10$ for it but 5$ and under it is totally worth it.

You play the role of a (if i remember correctly) 20 years old girl and the story is set in the mid 90ies (i was 18).

If you like reading books and watching drama movies you'll probably like Gone Home. This is not a game but an interactive story. The story is good but not awesome but definitely good enough. What makes it awesome is the house and everything inside it is so well designed you almost feel like you are inside a real house in the 90ies. Everything in the game made me feel back at home when i still was a teenager. From the note about Pulp Fiction to the old school console gaming reference. The VHS tape. The small CRT TV. Etc ..

Nostalgia is usually not my cup of tea. I'm a computer engineer and i'm looking forward more than backward. But being able to walk again inside an house set in the mid 90ies was still a really fun experience.

BTW Rogue Legacy is a really good game if you are a fan of games like Castlevania. It's not really a rogue game. Yes you need to restart at the beginning every time you die but you can level up, get new gears, more health etc and while death is permanent the upgrade you get don't vanish after death. Also once you killed a boss you don't need to kill it again you can go straight to the next level when you restart at the beginning and with the upgrades the early levels become easy quickly if you are a good player.

BTW i'm starting to dislike Don't Starve. The first 5-6 days are boring and restarting them everytime i die is boring. Just died at day 25 because i made my campfire 1 sec too late and i did not have a torch ... around 5 hours of game time just vanished ...

True but that's how it worked in the past with the coal / tickets IIRC. Just presuming it's the same, or at least the artifical odds of being picked result in earning more points. The whole thing is rigged as you can see from the winning teams.

Thanks dude, I will get Gone Home now if it's still on sale heh heh...as you said, nostalgia is not our thing anymore...older than you, was in my early 20's back in 1995, and of course I miss those days but then I don't. Things are better now, not for me necessarily, I mean for the world. You as a technologist should know this - the first rule of technology is no looking back as you mentioned. No nostalgia :D

EDIT: yes, still on sale, so got it, let's see what all the hoopla over the last year was about...if I don't like it, it's on you Lap, sorry called you by the wrong name

It's a good name! And it's your identity, don't change it! I should just remember to capitalize the P as well

Steam itself as in the site on smartphone and the client on PC is working fine, but it is true that have had some issues - like Wolf Among Us refused to finish downloading until i did the whole delete appcache thing and restarted everything. What you are experiencing might be a regional outage maybe? They are getting hammered to an extent, so things might go wrong, though so far it's been smooth-ish sailing.

but could be could be.

worked an hour later :p

Oh well, built some suspense. too bad didnt pay off lol

So i'm mostly done now since i spent around 50$ and planned to not spend more than 60.

I might buy Dear Esther and Braid if i can get them for around 3$. I'll probably buy Trine too since they are making an Enhanced edition of it using the same engine as Trine 2.

My impression of the games i bought so far.

Don't starve : Great game but not really my cup of tea. I'll test some addons when i'll have some time to see if i can make the game a little it more forgiving.

Guacamelee : Really fun game so far.

Gunpoint : Fun but more of a time killer than a game i will play when i want to play games.

Magicka : Did not play enough but looks cool albeit outdated a little bit. The style reminds me of Little Big Adventure which is not a bad thing at all.

Risk of rain : Addictive. Really fun rogue shooter. I wish the gfx would be a little bit more detailed ...

Spelunky : I expected more considering all the praise. Good game but not close to Rogue Legacy greatness so far.

Super Meat Boy : See Gunpoint.

The Swapper : AWESOME.

Tiny and Big : Better than i expected. A fun little game.

To the moon : Looks good but the control sucks. No controller support i'll setup Xpadder when i'll have the time.

I also bought Amnesia, Anno 2070 and Kingdoms of Amalur but i have yet to try those.

FEAR with Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate for like $2.50 is a pretty good deal, couldn't resist. Strange, but though I've played those multiple times on PC/360, I don't have a physical copy. The wonders of the digital age where nothing ever need be obsolete ever again! :alien:

I also love the FEAR series - the first games were amazing. I have the physical CD's for the games, but Steam is so much easier, so I bought the games on Steam a while ago.
