Randolph
I've been noticing this every time I install ad block and just wanted to understand something. Why would someone quit their day job and EXPECT people to support them? I understand they have one of the biggest extensions out there...but like really? In this economy, you quit "your job" and are dependent on an "adblock chrome extension"? lol i don't get it. Not trying to be rude...maybe its just me here. zhangm Supervisor Posted June 13, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted June 13, 2014 Are you able to opt not to pay?
(Account no longer active)
I don't use any ad blockers. Instead, I just set Flash to ask to activate when required (completely legal to do so). Makes browsing much faster. Not sure if this is possible in IE.
gdodson
Use Adblock Plus instead.
Max Norris
Use Adblock Plus instead. That author looks to get a bit of side money too, instead of a popup it'll allow selected ads thru by default. (It does tell you this in advance after install and it's a simple check box to disable.) Eh personally I don't mind people asking to get paid for their work as long as it's not crippled or some such and can easily opt out.. I don't care for trial/nagware either. That said, I wouldn't exactly quit my job and hope that one addon will pay the bills either.. that's a bit unrealistic.
+LogicalApex MVC Posted June 13, 2014 MVC Share Posted June 13, 2014 I'm not sure I understand your confusion... If he can make enough money off of AdBlock to make it his job then I don't see the problem. People who expect software for free, literally, are the cancer of our society. They expect developers to work without compensation and they feel entitled to the fruits of that labor without abandon... Randolph
I'm not saying I expect him to work for free. I was just simply wanting to know if and how can someone live off of that type of pay? I was actually more curious in knowing if something like that would or could work in todays day & age...sounds like a surely nice way to be getting money. :)
cooky560 Veteran Posted June 14, 2014 Veteran Share Posted June 14, 2014 While there is no opt out on that page, simply closing the tab doesn't prevent the software from working, and it it'll never appear again. If you know what you are doing, try using HOSTS editing instead, cheaper than adblocking software and works system wide. Whatever you decide to do, please whitelist Neowin.net to allow the ads here through! Randolph 1 Share
