What's the best free PDF reader?

28 posts in this topic

Many years ago I installed Foxit Reader 2.3 and after updating some of the add-ons, I created a portable version that weighs in at about 6 MB. It just has to be unzipped to a folder, make a shortcut to the executable, and that's it.

Over time, I think I've only found 2 documents that I could not open with Foxit. I've never had a problem with the way fonts or images were rendered, and it is very fast in use. I have tried newer versions, but they are too bloated for my taste.

Adobe Reader XI here as well (my triple-boot tower and Mom's 7 Ultimate x64 refurb).  Reader XI is lighter and far less crash-happy than Reader X on x64 iterations of Windows - it also has smaller-than-actual-size and larger-than-actual-size that Modern Reader lacks.

nitro reader

+1 for Nitro Reader, I even use the Pro version (for PDF creation and conversions)
