Hardcore Til I Die
The lengths that people will go to to make a quick buck doesn't even surprise me anymore, how sad is that? No matter how noble the cause (daughters medical expenses), the way they have handled the situation is despicable. People would have donated money to the cause without them making up this whole story. The Evil Overlord 1 Share

Hurmoth
This is so sad. This girl, who is completely innocent in this, has probably had a good portion of her life ruined by the greediness of her family. Say what you want about KFC, about the girl's family, but at the end of the day, this girl will have to live in a world where the people around her will remember her by what her family just did. I certainly hope I'm wrong about that, and that this girl finds someone who loves her and isn't wanting to exploit her and that this is a small part of what will turn out to be a fantastic and productive life, but these types of events can be incredibly scaring. DocM
Granny's in deep. As to the store, "We have never ever, ever run off anyone, and we have seen some really, really sick people come to the restaurant from the hospital," the source said. "We've had people come in who were shot in the face. We've had them with tubes and wire sticking out. We never have asked anyone to leave." http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2014/06/24/Report-Girl-with-scarred-face-never-visited-KFC-grandmothers-story-is-a-hoax/5361403608262/#ixzz35ZUbiGlz

neufuse Veteran Posted June 24, 2014 Veteran Share Posted June 24, 2014 Whats crazy is that KFC said they may still honor the donation. Either ways thats a graceful move on KFC's part If I was KFC, I'd say we will give the money DIRECTLY to a doctor or hospital to do any work that needs done... you obviously can not trust the parents, at least they could control where the money went in that case. DocM
^^ this. Probably easier to set up a managed trust to make the payouts.

xrobwx71
you can claim it all day long, but daily, employees do things that are looked at legally, and illegally and goes on a case by case basis. If it was a simple and black and white as your claim... and person can kill a company just by getting hired and then doing something awful to bring it down. Example: you work... (pretty sure i have seen posts about it), so what if at work, you made an illegal personal stock trade while on company time from a company phone wityh company clothes on? Guess your employer is responsible for that? Guess again. Could be that way in the states, but can't imagine it. It varies from state to state and whether or not you get a liberal Judge to see the case. It would be based on precedence law anyway, not actual law. stevember
Well, the world is full of part truths. Has anybody considered the conversation might have been misinterpreted, especially from an oversensitive parent? Surely it's a possibility, the words seem far too blunt for me to believe. I guess we should wait until KFC do their investigation. Edit: My mistake, after posting I just seen the update.
Fergdog
What are you talking about? Where do you get that they let the girl get mauled? And are they suppose to keep her away from the world like some kind of hunchback? I'm just guessing but I'm pretty sure he didn't mean they shouldn't take her outside but that they shouldn't give her such unhealthy food.
Skiver Veteran Posted June 25, 2014 Veteran Share Posted June 25, 2014 Wow, this is really really sad. The worst part of it is that a little girl who has clearly suffered far more than most 3 year olds, is more than likely going to live the rest of her life with some sort of visable scarring is understanding that people are "upset" by the way she looks. Hurmoth
Case closed: KFC confirms employee did NOT kick out 3-year-old pit bull attack victim from Mississippi restaurant Well, it?s over. Hours after a Mississippi family reassured the public Tuesday that their story of a little 3-year-old disfigured girl getting kicked out of a Jackson KFC was true, the fast food giant confirmed that two different investigations proved it was a hoax. Kelly Mullin originally told WAPT-TV earlier this month that her granddaughter, Victoria Wilcher, was told to leave because the girl?s scarred face was ?disrupting our customers.? The story pitting the little girl against the fast food eatery went viral quickly, bringing news stories from around the nation and earning the family $135,000 on a gofundme.com website dedicated to raising cash for the wounded child. Dr. Frank Stile, a Las Vegas plastic surgeon, pledged to do surgeries for free for the girl after learning of her plight. But KFC, who pledged $30,000 to the girl?s family for her care, easily debunked the tall tale, finding, for example, that Mullins and little Victoria never set foot in a Jackson KFC on May 15, much less were kicked out. One investigation was carried out by KFC, while a third party did a more thorough review. ?Neither revealed any evidence that the incident occurred and we consider the investigation closed,? KFC said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. The family had earlier posted on a Facebook page dedicated to tracking the girl?s recovery that the story was not a hoax. ?It is not over until KFC releases a statement,? the family wrote. But after KFC closed the case, the family dismantled the Facebook page and could not be reached for comment. And the gofundme.com campaign page for the girl was suspended and refunds offered to those who had donated, CNN reported. "In lieu of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the 'Victoria's Victories' online fundraising effort, GoFundMe has temporarily suspended the campaign until the full truth is made clear," a statement from CEO Brad Damphousse said. The Laurel Leader-Call broke the story of the hoax Monday night after unnamed sources gave some of the damning details the KFC third party investigation had found. What is not in dispute is what happened to little Victoria: She was mauled in April by three of her grandfather?s pit bulls during a visit to his home. The man, Kelly Mullins? ex-husband Donald Mullins, and his girlfriend, Rita Tompkins, were busted for child endangerment after the April 10 incident. Stile, the doctor who pledged to do surgeries to help the girl heal, wrote on Facebook on Tuesday that despite rumors the story was a hoax, he ?remains committed to helping Victoria." ?Our focus is on this child?s well-being and her future care,? he wrote. And despite their findings, KFC said it wants to help the disfigured blond-haired, blue-eyed girl. ?We are honoring our commitment to make a $30,000 donation to assist with Victoria?s medical bills,? KFC wrote in its statement. ?We hope everyone keeps Victoria in their thoughts and prayers. She will certainly be in ours.? Source: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/kfc-confirms-employee-kick-disfigured-girl-3-restaurant-article-1.1842831 I'm really glad that KFC is still honoring their $30,000 commitment to Victoria. The girl shouldn't be punished for what her family did, she didn't ask for any of this to happen.

sava700
I say let the girl continue to get the help she needs - she was infact attacked. However, I think the grandmother should spend the rest of her sorry life in jail for the hoax and I hope the Attorney General see's fit to go after her and anyone else that took part in the hoax. For KFC to still give the money for the little girl shows that KFC is the better of the two for sure. The story had a ton of holes in it from the start, those that were suckered in should be ashamed of themselves for not waiting for the evidence to be shown. MikeChipshop Member Posted June 25, 2014 Member Share Posted June 25, 2014 Love these stories accusing a whole company for something a stupid employee did. Totally agree and further more, isn;t KFC a franchise any way? It's a bit like calling out the whole of the UK because one guy from Kent did something wrong. Even though this case turned out to be a hoax, we've all seen other companies accused like this. Edit: Just read the article about the hoax. All i can say is that KFC have acted in an extremely admirable manner. Despite the family trying to use them to con publicity and money out of both KFC and the public, KFC have still turned round and said they'll donate a large sum of money to the little girls healthcare. That sure is good guy KFC at work there. Not only that, but a plastic surgeon has also offered his work Gratis to the little girl. All goes to prove that no matter how dickish the family around her was, there's enough good in people to see right through that.

Sadly with people like this, that 30k KFC is donating to the kid would be used for legal defenses/bills by the family if that happened. The kid would not benefit at all. Unless KFC does something, they will probably get away with it.

I don't fully understand the US health system but I hope there is a way KFC can pay the money directly to the place (insurance, hospital) that the money should be going to. I do agree with some to an extent that if people still want to donate they should be able to, but everything should be reset back to 0 and those can choose to do it again should they wish to. It's pretty damn sick to use your child in that sort of way, if the article is true and they were seen to have put the childs life at risk in the past then I would be questioning whether these people truly deserve the right to be called parents in the first place. I may be wrong, but I imagine they could setup a trust fund and use contracts with the family where the only way to get the money is to submit medical bills to the trust fund manager. Any remaining funds would probably be used to pay the trust fund manager. This isn't based on any knowledge or past experience in this sort of thing, simply throwing this out as a possibility. One that would satisfy me for the girl getting the care she needs and the family not getting the money to spend it on whatever they want.
