Should Microsoft have waited to release Xbox One in 2014?

Recommended Posts

If Microsoft waited a year later to release Xbox One in 2014 by previewing it in E3 and releasing it this Fall. Would they have a better argument to telling gamer to buy Xbox One over the PS4. This way, the hardware would be higher in spec because price would be cheaper and knowing what Sony would use in Playstation 4 and have more time with testing the system with bugs.

Short Answer: NO!

Long Answer: The problem has been price and country availability. The price is dropping and in September it will be almost on par with PS4 on country availability.

For me it wouldn't matter, I still won't get any of the consoles even if they were first released in 2014. I already have a more powerful LAPTOP that can do EVERYTHING and a BILLION OTHER THINGS that a simpleton console can't do.

No. Some of the people who bought the XB1 might have gotten the PS4 and been complacent with just 1 next gen console, until prices came down at least.

So... why comment?

I don't think changing their release date would have mattered to be honest, in fact it might have hurt them in the long run more than helped. If anything, Microsoft just needs to keep strong and keep chugging along. We still haven't seen anything worth note from either Sony or Microsoft, and likely won't till late next year. Then maybe we can start comparing success stories of the consoles.

To unnecessarily draw attention to himself.

When they released it might not be as important as how they released it. Easily one of the most controversial product releases ever.

Well based on the rushed nature of both consoles, an extra year would not have been the worst thing in the world just from the stand point of OS maturity.

But if your going to ask if MS should have waited a year while Sony still released at the same time, then no. It didn't work out well for Sony with the ps3. It took them almost an entire generation to claw back to a good position.

MS is currently clawing its way back to parity at a much faster pace thanks to launching at the same time.

Lets rephrase the question..

"Should Microsoft have let Sony have a 1 year head start!"

They both should have come out holiday 2012. Maybe then people like elenarie and their "powerful" notebooks wouldn't call console owners simpletons (code speak for I can only afford a laptop so i need to vent)
