If he's like me, he's got a nice collection of discs built up that he may not want to lose access to. Netflix has a good collection for streaming, but it's not even remotely comprehensive. Heck, I've got lots of stuff that isn't even available on Netflix's DVD service. But for streaming video, I admit it's hard to beat Roku for value. He can keep the DVD player if he wants... when the internet goes down, so he could watch DVD movies. I understand that Netflix does not have many movies that aren't available on either DVD or streaming depends on what you want to watch. I have Apple TV that has more movies than Netflix... no problem. That I can either rent or buy movies. rip the dvds and make a Plex library to stream them to the Roku :p This.. There you go. We are both running a NAS at home with 16TB of space that we host it on. I actually have a pretty large video collection on my tower, using TVersity for the streaming capabilities. Works nicely for XBMC and the X360 video player. But to have my rather large DVD collection on there would require a bit more than the 1.5 TB I currently have. Though I suppose I could split some of the unused space on my system drive into a second partition for storage. (I prefer to keep system/programs and data on separate drives.) LittleNeutrino Veteran Posted June 19, 2014 Veteran Share Posted June 19, 2014 one of the amazing parts of Plex is how it managed the library with episode / movie details and cast info as well as posters and backgrounds. Here is an example with the Classic Doctor Who. So on Roku you can view the info like that, or for my uses with the PS3 it will give a thumbnail of the poster (or just a thumbnail of the episode with TV) so you can get a better idea. And there are mobile apps for it to view on the go as well. (the server software is free) mobile apps cost $5 * I have all 26 classic Doctor Seasons on there as well as all the released Modern Doctor Who stuff :D the DVDs get to sit on the shelf and look pretty Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
