The easiest thing to use to pull stuff off a DVD is makemkv..

http://makemkv.com/

If you don't like mkv, then use say handbrake to change that to mp4.

I have used handbrake to pull right off a dvd, but makemkv is just so much easier - click click there you nice easy to use mkv file of your video off your dvd or bluray, etc.

i have tried dozens of different programs that do this, some were great and some were terrible. The best one I came across was http://www.freemake.com/

BUT have to warn you, it comes OPTIONALLY bundled with adware, so when installing, UNCHECK all "optional" programs so they don't get installed. I wish such an awesome program would not be tainted with this, but they need to make money somehow i guess.

Stay as far away from such software as possible!

or... maybe just uncheck it... tons of "free" programs come bundled with ways to pay for it... I would rather have a superior program with the option to UNCHECK it then to pay $50 for it...

Side note: I do agree that it is a HORRIBLE way for him to do it. If it wasn't the best i have ever tired, I too wouldn't use it based on the bundling factor.

Nope -- not me, you bundle crap, you are crap! Plain and Simple - Black and White solution.. For everyone smart enough to uncheck, there are going to be 1000's people that don't know any better. Hey billy says that software is good, they don't pay attention and now they have crap on their box. Who's fault is it - theirs for not paying attention or billy for suggesting said software in the first place.

Like I said I don't care if the that software was the second coming of software, bundled with crap = its crap!

while true, I was very clear in my suggestion AND what to be careful of. I do agree with you though. But i will still continue to use it, simply because it is better then all that i have tried. That is my main criteria.

I find that in terms of ease of use, Nero works for me. It's not free, though. Other options are more powerful, but it gets the job done well enough for my liking and is easy to use. You will have to add AnyDVD to bypass the protection, though.

I use handbrake it's free and fast for file conversion and dvd to file conversion.

Handbrake never had any problems with dvd protections for me.

It does not convert to wmv though but you can convert the mp4 to wmv with a different program like freemake though it has some toolbars and stuff in the installer, make sure to uncheck those and read carefully.
