Swapped HD now system is SLOW!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently upgraded my internal SSD to a speedier USB 1.0 external drive in my desktop PC and for some reason my system has come to a grinding halt. Could I have hooked it up wrong? I only have 2 USB slots and I tried it in both. Then I tried both laying it flat and standing it up sideways. I shook it a bit and finally after about an hour of that I heard jingle inside, perhaps there is something loose in there?

I know this is a bit of an advanced question but I am sure someone out there can help.

Thanks,

You swapped an internal SSD for an external USB 1.0 drive?  Of course it's going to be slower.  USB 1.0 is very slow, and an internal drive will always run faster than anything going through an additional bus to the motherboard.  Is the new drive a SSD? It sounds like the drive you replaced it with is a regular HDD.  How can a USB 1.0 anything be speedier than a drive plugged directly to your motherboard?

I'm closing this, since there is no need for a discussion here, USB 1.0 is slow, and SSD is fast. If this is a joke thread, you posted it in the wrong forum if it is not, you just received some education from here and from your experience on USB vs internal SSD.
