I read an article on the BBC that it could be a 24 match or 2 year ban. Definitely hope they throw the book at him and make it the latter as both International and Domestic. Apologies Liverpool fans, but 3 times really is inexcusable. If anything, there should be a clause that if he does it again, he should be banned for LIFE!

A Liverpool fan whom I spoke to briefly this morning is not opposed to a ban, but only wants it to be applicable to Uruguay team games, because that was the context in which the alleged offence was committed.

But it's the player that is the danger to others not the context in which the alleged offence was committed.

While his behaviour is stupid and uncalled for, are his bites really that dangerous to others when compared to some of the regular fouls in the game? As far as I'm aware, humans don't carry deadly bacteria in their mouths like a Komodo for example and Suarez could use the occasional reactionary elbow to the teeth. Maybe give him a steak to chew before the game and at half time, but as long his bites are not causing any lasting damage, I say they should be treated the same as a yellow card foul.

 

Ideally, he shouldn't be doing this, but there's obviously something wrong in his head.

It's not about lasting damage, it's about pure and utter disgust. Spitting at an opponent doesn't cause a lasting physical damage. Neither does a 1998 Beckham like retaliation to a foul, but both still carry red cards. I'm sorry, but there is no place at all for biting an opponent in any sport! For me, it's not just a red card, it's a lengthy ban and a fine too!

 

In a way, I'm glad the referee didn't give a red card yesterday because now FIFA have to act and can't use the stupid "double jeopardy" excuse!

All I'm saying is that it would be better to try and solve his problem because the bans ain't working on him going by the previous two instances.

How come? No other examples of human biting come to mind (apart from people who are into that when having sex), but babies and small children bite all the time. I haven't heard of any cases with any danger. Also most dangerous compared to what? A knee to the to the head (to be fair, that wasn't intentional, but still)?

The context that it was committed in was a football match. Ban him from football matches, for a very lengthy time. He's already bitten people during domestic matches, it's clear that he didn't just go for a snack because it was an international. Allowing him to continue playing domestically isn't addressing the issue at hand.

Tbh the bans were only for a few games, and considering he's on around ?200,000 a week (over ?10million a year paying little tax i bet), missing a few games just means a longer holiday.

 

If they do fine him, then it has be substantial, at least a few million, anything less he's not going to notice. My issue, is that this is the 3rd time, if this happened on the street, you'd be in court being prosecuted for assault and on a 3rd occasion, there might even be jail time. 

 

He should be banned from the sport for at least 2 years, he's had warnings, there is no excuse, there is no feeling sorry for him, they need to show that this kinda thing is not acceptable, because banning him for a few games clearly does nothing. Also with a few spanish teams looking into buying him, they're still going to offer a massive transfer fee/salary if he's banned for a few months. However if its a few years no team will want him and it will show that any violence is unacceptable.

 

Also think Uruguay should be kicked out of the world cup, mainly because they're trying to cover it up by blaming the media for making a big deal, and literally by one of their players trying to pull chiellini's shirt back up to stop him showing the ref the bite mark!

I don't disagree with the general idea of your post, but I still think 2 years is overkill for that and kicking Uruguay out of the World Cup is just silly talk. Why do you want to punish the whole team for Suarez and another guy who tried to cover for him? They'll be out the normal way soon enough too.
