Windows 9 might come as a free download, but only to certain users

What i would like to see is the ability to boot into a OS from the bios to download windows onto your computer. If windows keys are being stored in bio on new motherboards then i should be able to download windows direct from Microsoft when needed.

that does sound nifty, but BIOS' can be flashed ...

You do realize that windows 8 laptops have no physical/copyable key sticker - its in the bios SLIC. Windows has done this with windows vista +, but its getting more widespread now. a BIOS update wouldn't touch the slic info.

I love the chineses drama with Windows 8 between MIcrosoft by china banning Windows 8. I do have to agree with china Windows 8 Cloud based stinks they should do away with Metro ui and account login and I even half Chinese I agree with china for onces.

I love an article talking about Windows 9 with a screenshot of Windows 8 Beta or something.  I mean, heck, look at the old tile for the Store!

I believe that's the Developer Preview. That version of the Start Screen is nearly 3 years old. Wow.

Microsoft and the rest of the sane world.

At this point it's rumor, but do you seriously think if China bans the use of Windows 8.x/9 for whatever reason, that MS can ignore that? Seriously?

Might as well its not like they pay for windows or office. That one country has the most extreme piracy rate. The next highest place is the middle east and india. What amazes me about the other 2 is that in those countries they have extreme laws against stealing but yet they let piracy slide.

how does using an old OS cripple the net?

Using an old OS means that there comes a moment that you run upon a software-support-edge. Internet Explorer 8 is one of those edges, and soon, Firefox, Chrome and Opera will join IE8 for XP.

So what you mean is "cripple" your own experience and not the actual net? I thought you were saying the whole internet, sorry.

that's actually an interesting idea

thanks stole it from apple! Macs can boot into a recovery mode and redownloaded OS X. When i used this the first time i loved it! Would like to see it on windows.

not talking about about a big OS in the bios, but something like a netboot that would let you connect to wireless and download a recovery os to download your windows from ms servers. BTW stole idea from apple!

Blaster and Sasser did cripple huge portions of the internet. ISPs had to resort to disconnecting customers that had it.

Blaster (2003) and Sasser (2004) have nothing to do with an OS crippling the net becasue of age... Xp was only out for 2 and 3 years respectively. It would be like a new worm for windows 8 coming out and saying windows 8 is old and crippling the net. XP was the latest and current OS at the time.

They both crippled the internet in addition to making your PC unusable. The age of the OS isn't really relevant. Were something similar to them to be released now it would have the same result since XP is no longer supported or patched other than as paid incident support. This really has nothing to do with Windows 9, though.

???

I think you maybe misunderstanding what i said.... some one said "using an old outdated OS cripples the internet"... I asked "how does the age of an OS affect the internet?"  I wanted to point out (as you did as well) , that age has nothing to do whether an OS cripples the internet or not.

Which will be everyone, since MS will force the update just like they are for Update 1. This story makes no sense and is just pure speculation with no facts.

Not really, because look at how many are still on 8.0 and haven't moved to 8.1 yet for example.

I could just be going blind in my old age, but I came here again because my notifications said somebody had liked to a post I made. I can now not find my post, nor any reply to it. I don't recall it being offensive or argumentative, it was just challenging another poster's assertion that everybody who bought Windows 8 had wasted their money.

Are our posts now being deleted and/or censored these days?
