On Drive loses files after re-image

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is still happening; As an example: Today I added and made edits to multiple files in my documents that are stored into One Drive. Two hours later my drive crashes and I have to reimage. The image is from the previous day. I restore the image and checking my documents, I find that all my new files and edits that I preformed today are gone.

Does anyone know if One Drive still work this way?

Thanks...

It's possible your files hadn't synchronized yet. You didn't by any chance mouse-over the Onedrive system tray icon to see if it said "all files are up to date"?

Like any sync product, your changes start out on your machine and are synced later to the cloud. How long this takes depends on the size of the files, your internet connection, and how busy your computer is.

About a year or two ago I stopped using Skydrive because there was a major flaw in the way it re-synced after a re-image.

Say I had a image created a week ago. Between the time I created the image and  today (which has been a week) I had edited and added multiple files to my local Skydrive folder. Now I have to use my week old image because I lost my hard drive. I restore the image and find that all the files I added, or edited between the date the image was created, and the date of the restore have been either over written, or removed to match what's in the local folder from my week old image.

It appears that Skydrive looks at the local folder, and syncs based on those files after a re-image, and not the files in the cloud.

Does anyone have any knowledge id Onedrive is syncing correctly. Dropbox syncs correctly; It uses the files in the cloud to update the local folders after a re-image.
