A Mexican military helicopter involved in an anti-drug smuggling operation flew into America before shooting at two US Border Patrol agents yesterday.

KVOA-TV reported the chopper fired over Tohono O?odham Indian Nation in the Arizona desert, before flying back to Mexico early Thursday morning. The agents were not injured.

Border Patrol Tucson Sector union president Art del Cueto said Mexican officials 'contacted US authorities and apologized for the incident' which occurred between midnight and 6am.

US Border Patrol spokesman Andy Adame confirmed the report, saying the 'Mexican law enforcement helicopter' fired two shots 'while on a drug interdiction operation near the border'.

He said the incident was under investigation.

Sebasti?n Galv?n, a spokesman for the Mexican Consulate in Tucson, told AP the office was gathering information but did not have any details yet.

This isn't a one time occurrence. Mexican troops and Federales have also crossed the border, sometimes firing on US border agents.

Were the agents disguised as smugglers, by any chance?

No. Interdiction raids are uniformed paramilitary operations, not infiltration operations.

USBP either dresses in police or Army style uniforms, sometimes camos, with "US BORDER PATROL" writ on the back in large letters. Body armor is common. Their vehicles are large white SUV's, sand buggies or military style trucks with insignia and Border Patrol in large letters.

This was no mistake, just like the other 300 or so incidents in the last several years.

Americans in general are getting pretty ticked off about this and the Obama administrations unwillingness to reinforce the border. They say they're sending reinforcements, but 90% of what they send are field agents - just office types to facilities that may be hundreds of miles from the border.

State governors and border property owners in the region are extremely concerned, and yet the White House takes them on if they try to use state resources for more than decorations.

Ticking time bomb, and a large reason why you see southwestern state Republicans and some Democrats opposing Obama at every turn. They don't trust him or his appointees.

Typical USBP uniforms, but sometimes Army camos.

Yeah.  I would have para-phrased, but the forum rules state to use the original title, so I just copied/pasted, sorry about that.

Off topic a little, but I couldn't help but notice the blank adapter on the guy's rifle.  I used to hate using those things, so much gunk to clean out when you're done training.

No problem. I was half joking.
