fastcat Posted June 28, 2014 Share Posted June 28, 2014 I have a computer running an AMD-A10 APU, the case has two fans blowing air in and one fan extracting the air, one of the fans that blows air inside is no longer working, this is a new computer by the way but the warranty is void because I opened the case and I changed the hard drive. I am wondering if I should worry if that fan is not repaired, I don?t have the skills to do that myself and I don?t want my computer to overheat and burn some component, I don?t know if two fans, one blowing air in and one extracting the air are enough. I downloaded Open Hardware Monitor and, besides only detecting two fans, it tells me that the hard drive runs at 34C and the CPU at 13C (probably not detecting it properly because it is an APU). Bottom line, should everything be fine in a computer with just two fans and running an AMD A10 APU (Quad core).? Thank you for your help Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Xahid Posted June 28, 2014 Share Posted June 28, 2014 Take it to some technician or call any friend who know a little about hardware, its really not hard to fix the Fan problem (if not broken) beside, The casing fans are optional, you dont have to worry about Case Fans. Mindovermaster Moderator Posted June 28, 2014 Moderator Share Posted June 28, 2014 Opening the case does not void warranty. Unless it's a dumb supplier, don't worry. Is this your CPU heatsink fan? Then I'd worry about it. While temperatures are OK now, play any game, and you might overheat. It probably just has stock heatsink. Ever think about getting a 3rd party one? Phouchg Posted June 28, 2014 Share Posted June 28, 2014 If it's only case fan, it's not a big deal - many such computers run without any case fans at all. You should, however, disconnect it from the board or fan controller. If there's a loose wire, for example, it might short. As for shop warranty - I've been told by Consumer Rights rep it's perfectly lawful for them to do so. That doesn't make it less dumb - that shop is to be avoided, because a whole lot of others don't do this. You still have manufacturer's warranty for individual components, but that's it. Since it's a case fan, it's most likely part of the case, so even if warranty claim is accepted (they'll also ask papers and try to send you back to that shop at first), you'd probably have to dismante it and ship the whole deal. Normally if you ever want an upgrade, you'd have to go through them and pay an extra $100 for them to install it. Never buy from a random shop. I thought about that possibility too and besides the fan being always turned off and the other two always on, the Open Hardware Monitor tool only detects two fans, this is what makes me belief that it is broken, I never seen it working and the case is open. For the people saying that replacing a fan is easy, it is a double fan, it is connected in series with another one that is working. I checked all the cables for loose cables and nothing, it seems that both fans have a single motherboard connector with three pins that say "sysFan1" Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
