HELP! Can't Reinstall Windows

Recommended Posts

I have an Asus laptop, and after reinstalling windows, I got BSOD.

I then restarted the windows and I was waiting for windows diagnosis - whether I waited or pressed cancel to proceed, it just stopped working.

So I thought I should reinstall the windows (Recover Windows to first partition only), but this time, I can't even reinstall/recover.

Here's the sc I have attached.

It just stops at 2% and later shows Error Recovery.

Has it completely died? Do I have to buy a new laptop?

Did the computer come with any sort of recovery media rather than using a recovery partition?

ImageX isnt truly installing windows. it is taking an image of an installed Operating System and putting it in a specific location (rather like Ghost imaging)

It could be that the WIM file in your Recovery partition is either corrupted or damaged. or that the partition you are installing to has an issue.

I suppose if you have direct access to the WIM file you could run a check on it to see if it is corrupted.

If you can get into a command prompt and have access to the file run the following command on it.

imagex /mount  image_path {/check }

don't have any recovery media, and basically can't do anything other than pressing f9 of the recovery setting :(

sounds like the hard-drive might be failing to me then

grab a new one and download a windows 7 (i assume that's what you have) iso & pop it in & reinstall windows. there should be a key on the bottom of the laptop you can use to reactivate otherwise you can use a certificate after install to pull the key from bios

I'll go with a failing HDD too. You should have created backup discs when you got the laptop. Most laptop software will prompt you do this the day you turn it on.  That said I still find it ###### that they cheap out and don't give you this media.  I'm will to bet 99% of people get caught out.

more than likely, and as others have said, it is probably a harddrive going south.  Pick up a new one and have a go at it.  You can contact asus to purchase recovery media if you need otherwise you can find enough online to be able to get windows up and running on it and get all of the drivers needed.

Here is windows 7, get the right version you need for the key that is on your computer

Just a FYI the downloads above I believe are for the retail versions, I'm not 100% sure but I don't think they will work with the OEM key you have on the laptop.

the retail copies work just fine with oem keys. i just reloaded a windows 7 laptop with a retail iso & the oem key last week to sell at a garage sale so I know

Depending on the OEM the key should work just fine. its usually the other way around that you have a problem (OEM disk wont take a retail key)

Check your memory slots on your laptop.  I've seen this on several occasions.

Pull out the memory and use only 1 stick to test each slot (put memory stick in one slot and turn on laptop, if it's fine, pull that one stick and test the other slot).  But memory slot burnouts happen in laptops quite a bit as well...

It could also be the HDD as others have stated.

They work with oem and retail. In Windows 7 they have allowed, if that is the right word, to use oem, retail, TechNet/open license with the same media.

With these particular downloads I have registered many Dell's, hps, and Lenovo s with the keys on the case/laptop
