I ordered a 64GB OnePlus One

Recommended Posts

So, I was fortunate enough to receive an invite to purchase the OnePlus One. I received one because I joined the OnePlus forums back in January (member #755). They sent invites to members that joined early as a reward for supporting them.

It's a slick looking phone that ships with CyanogenMod.

The total came to $376.99 USD ($414.61 CAD). I'm sure I'll pay more when it's delivered. Probably customs or a brokerage fee. I don't think the total will exceed $450 CAD though.

EDIT: Grand total is $479.15 CAD. The breakdown is as follows: $414.61 CAD after conversion from $376.99 USD. And $64.54 (tax + brokerage fee). It should be cheaper for US customers.

I thought they shipped the phone from Canada, and it was $349 for the 64GB model (plus $16-19 shipping). Customs is based off the value ($414CAD) and usually is your local sales tax, Ontario is 13% isn't it? $58ish, then brokerage is a rapist fee, which is like $35 or a few % of the cost, probably $25-40. If it ships in Canada you shouldn't have either however, but I'm thinking it didn't if the shipping was over $20. Please keep me informed. shipping USA side adds a bit on the cost. I sadly joined in June, Member like 90000. I'm hoping theres 100000 invites.

It ships from China and the only shipping option for people in Canada is express. Standard would have been $8.99 USD. I'm a little worried about being hit with tax but someone from Toronto received theirs. According to that person's thread on the OnePlus forums, the grand total was $435.50 CAD. That's the cost of the phone plus shipping in CAD and the brokerage fee. I guess they customs brokerage company waived the tax otherwise the grand total would have been higher.

I'll definitely keep you informed though. I've already committed to the purchase and although I'd like to pay less, I wouldn't get a refund if I had to pay tax as well as a brokerage fee. It's simply the cost of ordering a phone from China.

You will have the most powerful Android yet.

It's one of the most powerful, up there with the Galaxy S5, One M8 and Xperia Z2.

Its a great looking phone and its priced well. Personally I believe 5.5" is too big however, but if that's the trend that phones are going to continue on over the next few months then the OnePlus One would be my first pick.

Hope you like the phone. I've been trying hard to get my hands on this phone, going through every contest they put out. My wife's been itching to get the phone and I'd like to get her one of these, as this is probably the best value on the market right now.

Looks like a decent phone for the price, but it's too big for me. Also, not a fan of the invite system - way to screw over potential customers. Definitely wasn't the smartest idea for a brand that no one's ever heard of...

I've dealt with DHL shipments from China before, and if they are properly declared you will definitely pay tax on it. You'll be looking at $68 if everythings above table. thats 2.5% of $414CAD, which is $10.35, and $58 for the 13% sales tax.  https://secure.onlinelabels.com/General/DHLFeeDetails.aspx   According to the  forum, he paid $24.58, so numbers aren't matching up to a properly declared value, something around $150 would be $24ish. DHL is really fast though, you'll probably find out by Thusday what it'll be

Enjoy the phone! :) i've been wanting one myself for months. I should have joined their forums a lot sooner, however i didn't think the whole invite thing would be this ridiculous.

Do let us know how you find it!

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this phone. If you are able to invite others I'd love an invite :)

I was quite interested in a One device but the whole invite system put me off completely :/

It's discouraged me but not put me off completely. What's really confusing is that a company that is brand new to the game and really could do with as many people as possible to spread the word about their phone, they're making it very difficult to get your hands on with the device!

Its for this reason they need to do it. They can't afford to produce and sit on 10 million devices like Apple/Samsung can.

That's what most normal people use pre-orders for, to gague demand.  This silly invite only system just turns consumers off, myself included.

5" is just about right for me and although 5.5" is pushing it, the placement of the buttons is important. Fortunately, the OnePlus One has an side unlock button closer to the middle. My Nexus 5, for example, has it closer to the top.

If you get a chance to invite others can you send one my way please?

Let us know how you enjoy the phone. I'm excited for it

I think I'm getting 3 invites and so far, they have all been claimed by my sister and two friends.

$349 USD for a 64 GB device with flagship specs is pretty darn good so the value is definitely there.

The invite system is in place to limit the number of people that make purchases. OnePlus is a new company and they're still ironing out the kinks with shipments. Also, they'd prefer to let fans get the phone first.

I see. I learned on the forums that people who ordered last week will have their shipments sent to a US warehouse next week. From there, it'll be delivered to me in Canada.

i would love to get my hands into this phone, but the customs in my country would render this phone to be very expensive.

Thats sad they charged you a foolish shipping fee, then are going to delay you getting it by nearly a week. DHL would have got it to your door with the 2.5% brokerage in 2 days. Unless they ship with slow USPS, or UPS worldwide which include all fees, the brokerage will probably be higher and you'll be waiting longer.

It sucks. Apparently, the express shipping only applies to the delivery from the warehouse in the US. Regardless, it's the only option available for Canadian customers. My order status recently changed from "Pending Shipment" to "Processing". I really hope they send a shipment to the warehouse by the end of the week. The less I have to wait, the better. I'm a patient person but I'd love to have it before July 11th because I won't be home over the weekend.
