Wi-fi Adapter Problem

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is a hardware or software problem.

Internet wi-fi frequently being interrupted.

I have seen this diagnostic message (below) a few times now.

Could this be a wi-fi adapter going bad ?

Is there some Settings adjustment in Windows 7 to make ?

Is there some Router Setting to fix the problem ?

Motorola SURFboard SBG6580 modem/router.

Thanks for any helpful responses. ;)

its clearly said, your DNS (configured) causing the problem. why do you think its adapter problem ?

Try to change your DNS to google DNS and then test.

^ No. Amped Wireless.

I did do a Google DNS under the 2nd entry:

I am not sure this is right.

I suspect the Adapter because there have been problems since the first month of dealing with it.

It konks out often.

change the channel on your router. i had that as well and had to wait each time the connection would stop working (multiple on/off operations, interface resets, flushdns and other stupid stuff like that)

Why do you have the DNS configured in your computers? If you are using everything automatically and have your DHCP server on your router and not using static IP configure your DNS in your router as well and not in your PC.

I think he configured the DNS in computer for testing purpose.

Ah, that explains it.

Well I see you have ipv6 stuff still enabled - are you using ipv6?, if not - atleast for troubleshooting disable the ipv6. Simple way is to just from an admin prompt

reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\tcpip6\parameters /v DisabledComponents /t REG_DWORD /d 255

reboot

To put it back to default

reg delete hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\tcpip6\parameters\ /v DisabledComponents /f

reboot

curious why your connection has 12 on the end of it - do you have lots of interfaces, have you installed drivers multiple times?

Question for you - when you have issues, can you ping the internal routers IP, can you ping IPs past your router - say 8.8.8.8 for example? Its quite possible your internet connection is down or flaky and windows can not query dns because of it - so it gives such a report.

IPv6 is not enabled or even installed.  That would require some deliberate entries.

It has been running better with the DNS numbers from Comcast, but it just threw up the same message.

A download was running fine, but at the same time, I could not get on a web page.

Weird.

Disconnecting from the wi-fi then reconnecting fixed it for the moment.

There is nothing in the Router Settings to adjust to the DNS server.

It just shows that the router is using Comcast servers.

"IPv6 is not enabled or even installed."

Sorry but its installed and enabled out of the gate! What do you think this stuff is?

IPv6 has been enabled out of the box since Vista. MS in their infinite wisdom felt it wise to enable not just 1 but 3 different paths to ipv6 from ipv4 network, teredo, isatap and 6to4. While I agree it should require the user to enable if they so desire it. Which is why I would suggest you run the reg command to disable all of those tunneling interfaces. Actually 4 if you count the native dual stack that is enabled as well.

And lets ask again - when you have an issue can you ping the gateway, can you ping an IP on the internet - or is it just that dns is not answering?

All I know is the Install button for Ipv6 is lit up -- the Uninstall button is grayed out.

There is a ping LAN/WAN test in the Router, which it passes.

Clearly the DNS works some of the time, and fails at other times.

This problem seems to coincide with the use of the new modem/router.

I have never seen this DNS error message before the newer router.

"There is a ping LAN/WAN test in the Router, which it passes."

That is NOT what I freaking asked -- JFC dude really..  Can the client ping the modem/router lan IP when the client is having issues, can it ping 8.8.8.8 when the client has the issue?

Your going by the install button - and not the fact that your ipconfig /all shows you ipv6 addressing on it ;)  Your prob not the best person to be helping this guy to be honest..

So like this install button that is lit up on my ipv4 protocol - which clearly is installed and working since I am kind of using it ;)

Trying to help you dude, but if your not going to listen or provide some actual info that might help pin down the problem like can the client actually ping, when there is a issue.  Your wireless might show connected just fine - doesn't mean its actually working.  A simple ping test to the router lan IP, and then beyond it will tell you if connectivity..  etc..

Good Luck!!

The DNS Server error message has disappeared. :)

I guess I need to clearly mark these problems as
