When I play a video file from the harddrive it skips and lags as well. This hdd backs up every morning to another hdd so everything is backed up. :) One thing I've wondered is, are any files corrupted due to this? What can cause this? Hopefully your case has a fan slot in front of the HDD cage and you could put one in. Either way, I would get a new drive for my system drive as that one is probably going to fail. Check the case fans for dust bunnies - they'll spike the box temps like you wouldn't believe. It's not so much the heat per se, but the expansion related to it.
