Google Adds Android Screen Mirroring To Chromecast

For those saying the lag is not that bad, try gaming.

I can not play a game using this, and to me (with plex and youtube supported apps already) the only point in Screen Casting is games.

So this is a disappointment for me

The delay is < 1 sec, so not ideal for gaming, but it's pretty damn fast considering it has to go through a router. I can't see how any phone can achieve instant response over casting/airplay/etc.

Each frame needs to be rendered, captured, encoded/compressed, transmitted, routed, transmitted again, decoded and drawn. You can't expect that to be realtime, especially not on a phone with limited processing power. If the hardware encoders (which you need for something like this) can't do super-instant, it's not possible.

The cool thing about screen mirroring is that it's a much easier way to show people photos, webpages, ... I've had it on my phone and TV for ages (Miracast, same thing pretty much) and it's not all that interesting. The quality is still too low for video because everything needs to be encoded again (usually at a lower quality).

Google has released a feature for Chromecast announced at Google I/O this year ? Android device screen mirroring. The update today brings the much-desired feature to all Chromecast-capable devices and makes Google Cast much more similar to Apple?s competing AirPlay offering for iOS devices.

and just like Miracast, already on my android tablet?

Has anyone tried this with Android L Dev. Preview? It is a lot slower than with 4.4 on the same device. I tried with my Nexus 7 2013, and it's very speedy. Cast the camera app and see for yourself.

Also test your latency.

Quick on my N7 and G2 as well.  Hardly a delay in streaming
