My wishlist for Threshold - and it's nothing big

Now that we know that the charms-bar is going away, I hope they incorporate some of it's functionality in a new notification center that works very similar to WP8.1

Mainly the settings charm.

I also hope we get the same management options for the start screen that we have now in WP8.1. When you move a tile in WP you don't ruin the rest of all your tile positions. Live Folders would be nice too.

 

One last thing I hope for is co-ownership finally making it's way to OneDrive. Why can't we share our pictures folder for instance with family nd everybody is allowed to add/edit/delete pics from the folder

I believe so, yes. It is interesting to note that Microsoft had planned to include this feature in Windows all the way back in 2003 - before Android or iOS even existed. Also, I have yet to see an instance of this feature as thorough as the one described in those guidelines.

Examples . . .

 

"Longhorn" notifications put users in control of when and how they receive notifications. For example, users can appropriately degrade or upgrade the urgency of a given notification. They can set times during which notifications are prohibited, such as when a full-screen application is running or when the user is in a meeting. Users can also turn off notifications from a particular source, and they can decide whether notifications should make a sound when they are displayed.

 

Because notifications are lightweight UI, they appear on the screen briefly and then disappear. In "Longhorn," notifications with fewer than two lines of text appear for four seconds before timing out. Longer notifications time out after eight seconds. A dynamic timer bar to the right of the notification informs users of the time-out process. Like sand falling out of the top half of an hourglass, the color in the timer bar gets shorter as time runs out. However, the timer stops whenever the cursor pauses over the notification. And users can adjust the timer so that notifications stay on the screen for a longer or shorter amount of time than the default time.

Similar features would be perfect for Windows 9/Threshold/vNext.

so why are they useful in a web browser, but not in a file browser?

I use tabs in my browser, but File Explorer isn't the same has a browser.

I want then to make file explorer into the Files app from Windows phone, with all the functionality intact of course. A split screen snap option in files would be appreciated, tabs for me are welcome (drag and drop files to another location quickly, cut down on number of Windows open). Tabs also solve the Modern UI one window at a time guideline. U also want color-coded tagging and more "views" like OSX has. What do you think? Don't tabs help?
