How can I protect a shared email address from someone accidentally using POP?

Recommended Posts

If I have an email box that multiple staff log in to and share (obviously using IMAP), how can I protect/prevent someone from accidentally setting up their client with POP and clearing out all of the mail from the inbox to their local machine?

This actually just happened when a staff member configured their personal Gmail account to connect to our sales address via POP3 and just cleaned out the entire inbox into their personal Gmail.

At the moment some accounts use POP3 and some use IMAP. When we get some more storage space we'll go full IMAP then I'll try this out. Or can we configure it to refuse POP3 on a per account basis?
