Exchange email hosting solutions?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the right forum for this but it made the most sense when I was looking around for the right place to post. Please move if there is a better location.

So basically I want my own email on my domain but I want a few things I can't get with free services anymore since Microsoft and Google have killed off free custom domains :(

What I need is a hosted email solution that gives me the following

  • Exchange or Exchange ActiveSync (push)
  • Email, Calendar, Contacts sync/push
  • 2 Factor Authentication, preferably using the Google Authenticator app like how Gmail and Outlook.com supports.

I used to have all this with Google Apps for Domains personal but Google killed it off :( So I moved to Outlook.com with a personal domain but that too is now coming to an end.

I have looked at Office 365 but it is quite expensive at ~?80 a year. I already own Office 2013 so I don't care about the license I get with it.

I need to be able to setup both my phones (iPhone and Android) and Outlook 2013 and have everything stay in sync and push email.

It looks like Google Apps for Business is the cheapest at ?33 a year but I was wondering if there is anything else people might recommend?

Cheers!

Which Office 365 plan were you looking at? They have the Exchange Online Plan which is just strictly email and no Office attached with it.  It's $4/month in US currencies.

Interesting, thanks! It is ?2.60/month in the UK. Not bad at all. I can't seem to find any info on 2FA though, do you know if it is included?

I use this for my home use as well. Yes you can set two factor authentication, I had it working with text message but not the google auth app.

Here is the info to set it up:

Currently using it with DirSync to my AD which doesn't support two factor, so if you are using AD at home and want to the sync your AD 2FA won't work.

FYI it is ?3.20 per month with VAT.

Yes, you enable it domain-wide. SMS will be sent whenever you log in to webmail or the admin portal. Supports app-passwords, etc. just like Gmail.

Thanks. Outlook.com supports the standard Google Authenticator app, setup is simple you just scan the QR code and its done :) Works so well everyone should do it!

So really it is the same for Google Apps and Office 365 so really it comes down to which I want to use more. Hmmm.
