Real, academic, alternative to Scrievener?

So far Scrievener have been a staple on my academic workflow. But the lack of updates and the lack of an iPad version is really making me think that the software has been abandoned. Is there any other academic paper's making app that has something like a standard format or an iPad companion app that I could use? I dont use the creative tools in Scrievener so I dont need a bit by bit equivalent. I just need something that keeps track of my sources, chapters and automatically generates an index and APA's references.
