Go harder for longer with Nyko's Power Pak for PlayStation 4

Recommended Posts

Gaming accessory manufacturer Nyko Technologies has announced the Power Pak for PlayStation 4. The device is a snap-on rechargeable battery pack that's rated at 1000 mAh. The lithium ion battery connects through the controllers Micro USB port to recharge the controller while it is in use.

The Nyko Power Pak for PS4 allows for all this (and probably more, like making sandwiches!):

- Doubles the battery capacity of the DualShock 4 controller

- Pass-through Micro USB port allows users to recharge both the controller and the Power Pak through a standard Micro USB cable

- Fully compatible with Nyko's Charge Base for PS

- Dedicated power switch enables users to decide when they need extra juice. Just like Honey Boo Boo!

The Power Pak for PS4 is available now and retails for $19.99 at GameStop, Amazon, and other video game accessory stores.

It is a shame that this is legitimately needed. The battery life for the DS4 is abysmal.

Too true. The only life saver for me is my phone charger is at the side of my bed and it charges my DS4 (android phone).

At least this addon doesn't look butt ugly, but I still think it will interfere with the ergonomics of the DS4.

I hardly ever use my DS4 wirelessly.

When I'm playing the PS4 I have it wired to the Xbox One (which is in standby) which has a longer USB cable (that came with the Play & Charge Kit).  And just use it as a wired controller.

Nothing like your battery dying while being flooded by enemies, in inFamous:SS...

You didn't buy the 3 metre ps4 light up charge cable that changes colour when done?

(although I'm considering one of these myself... I'll wait til I see some results for how long it'll maintain a charge and a UK seller :p )

Mine's normally plugged in. I have a multiple USB charger by my chair which normally houses my phone and whichever controller I'm using.

It seems to be a worrying trend. The Wii U is exactly the same - the battery on that is ridiculous too.

Was so excited for the thread title until i realized i was in the Sony section and we were talking about a DS4 battery pack. Oh well, still good, recharging that fella on a daily basis if you do any serious gaming can get tiresome. The controller, i mean.

I bought a second controller and charging dock and just swap out controllers when one starts to run low. Works well.

Putting this accessory on would increase the weight of the controller and change its ergonomics so its not for me, but the additional accessories to extend battery life trend is also getting annoying even for other portable devices (e.g mobiles).

Companies really needs to focus on improving battery technology to keep up with the increased power consumption of current day devices.
